New RN to San Antonio

by greysen

I just graduated from nursing school in FL and moved to San Antonio. I live at the north end of San Antonio and am looking at working on a med-surg floor at Methodist Hospital, University Hospital, Santa Rosa, or Baptist....any experience with any of these places, suggestions, or comments? Thanks!

Also, I've spoken to 2 of the hospitals and they do not offer sign on bonuses...is this fairly common for hospitals in San Antonio?

Hey Greysen,
I lived in San Antonio almost 10 years ago and the wages were low then, compared to Dallas and Houston. I'm kinda leaning towards moving back soon but the wages keep me from pursuing that aggressively. I would really be interested in knowing what salary ranges they offer you down there.

There were articles written recently (last couple of years) of collusion among San Antonio area hospital HR departments that kept nursing salaries low and uncompetitive. Here's a link to give ya something to chew on while you hunt down a job.
