New Graduate Nurse having trouble finding job in Dallas

Hi,
I am a Graduate Nurse with a BSN (as of last Saturday) and I just moved from Kansas City to North Dallas. When I looked online before moving, I saw many nursing jobs, so I thought I would have no problem finding one. I was not expecting all of the hospitals to have Internships that don't start until January- we don't have those in KC. So now my problem is that I can't find somewhere to work until January, and that is too long to wait. The only hospital I have found that doesn't have Internships is the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, and I submitted my application and called them last week. Does anyone know of any other hospitals that I could possibly get hired at without waiting until January? I'd appreciate any suggestions! I'd love to work in the ER, but I am also happy with any other hospital area.

Thanks,
Katie

Many RNs who have difficulty landing hospital employment are usually quite sucessful at landing positions in home health, long-term care, rehab, and other non-hospital jobs. My facility hires graduate BSNs regularly before they have gained initial licensure and offers them much higher pay than that of the local hospitals. The starting pay of BSNs without an RN license is $23 hourly with an increase after licensure. You might want to work a non-hospital job until something 'better' comes along. By the way, we're both in the Metroplex. I could give you the names and numbers of places that are in need of RNs in a private message if you are interested.

Even though I live in Fort Worth, I saw a billboard on University at Park Hill for Plaza Medical Center stating they were hiring 100 nurses in a hundred days. Here's the link: http://www.plazamedicalcenter.com/Cu...07913C29019%7D

I don't know if it's appropriate for this thread but thought it would help some folks in the metroplex looking for nursing jobs.

Good luck on your search!

The trouble is you are like me and missed the boat for the September internships. Had never heard of them either. Baylor has a couple that start in October. baylor health care systems and check their job search. They still have a posting for their ones that start Sep 11 as well as they are starting to post January ones as well. Should you want a specialty. The recruiters I spoke with say to start checking in September for the January internships. Hope this helps and Good luck!

Yes I was going to mention Baylor as well. I know they hire you as someone that follows the nurse around at first and does what she does but under her supervision (particularying Baylor Irving). Call up there and maybe they can give you more information. They have a specific program for this. 972-579-8100.

Hey, Is it possible if you could please tell me what hospital you got the ER position. I too, am in the same boat as you were. I'm looking for an ER or ICU job and I really don't want to wait till January. Any info, would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob.

Medical City Children's Hospital. I no longer work there- but you should call their HR and see if they have any new grad openings. Good luck!
