New Grad Programs

by SDA3694

Hi! Can anyone tell me what the job market for new grads looks like in Texas? I currently live in Alabama, graduate on May 15th and I am looking to relocate. I know that alot of hospitals now are doing away w/ new grads positions because alot of new grads were working w/ temporary license and then not passing NCLEX, so basically they were throwing away alot of money on training (which they cant afford do now bc of this economy) but I plan on taking NCLEX before applying anywhere ....I just like to look for the places that hire new grads bc they tend to have longer orientations!!Thanks in advance for any information that you can provide me with!

Default Re: New Grad Programs
Hey! I live in San Antonio and the hospital I work at has a lot of new grad internships. Mine was 16 weeks long I believe. Now, I started a year and a half ago so I guess things could have changed but I'm almost positive we still have a lot of available new grad programs....I know my unit still does.

The only thing I would say is that you need to apply before you take NCLEX....I would apply now since you graduate in just a few weeks. Most of the orientation prgrams I have seen start fairly soon after graduation and hired people who would be ready to work as a GN starting in June. I worked in my unit as a student so I applied WAY before so I'm not sure when the others applied but it was before graduation.

That's not to say that all programs work like that and start so soon....that's just how the ones at my hospital seemed to be.

If you have any questions about the hospital I work at feel free to PM me. Best of luck in your move, NCLEX, and your new jobs....so exciting!
