New "09" Fall Lone Star North Harris Students

by Tyshe

CONGRATULATIONS to all that got accepted into the nursing program at Lone Star College and also the ones put on as alternates (hang in there, I have read good news for alternates in previous threads). Its been a long hard road for some of us and some its prabably been easy. I wanted to start a new thread for North Harris fall "09" students (or who every wants to comment or give tips.) Reading from previous threads I understand nursing school is not an easy tasks. So, hopefully this thread can help us entering into this new life we are about to experience for the next 2 yrs.

I was hoping we can form a study group to jump start us off before school starts. I heard that students usually have their group going by the first day of class. I am a little shy when it comes to meeting new people, but once I am comfortable I fit in just fine. I know from the previous thread a few of us admitted our shyness in a new environment. So, hopefully this thread can help us jump start our group...

Have anyone start working on their CPR, shots, physical and etc. Do anyone have to take pharm this summer? As for me, I have to take pharm this summer. I wish I had already taken it earlier so I could have enjoyed my summer.

Hi... I would like to be in the study group. I am also pretty shy at first. I got my CPR certification about a year ago so its only good for another year. I think the only shot I need is the Tdap... the others I had when I was younger and I had titers drawn to make sure I was still immune. I still need to get a physical though. I am taking pharmacology online through kingwood in summer I. I also didnt want to take it in the summer but I want to get everything out of the way that I can before the really hard stuff begins!

I would like to be in the study group as well! I signed up for the May 15th CPR class at NW medical center. I am taking Pharm this summer at NH - the Tuesday/Thursday class from June 2nd - July 7th.

Does anyone know what kind of proof we have to have for the immunizations? Is there a form that needs to be filled out? I have completed my Hep B but I still need to do the Tdap and TB test. But I want to wait until I know what kind of proof (paperwork) we need so I don't have to run around to get things signed, etc.

What day are you all going to orientation? I'm going on June 3rd.

Hi, as I mentioned in the other thread, I would like to be part of this study group as well! I took my CPR about a year ago, so I am good until next February - I took it through Montgomery College CE when I did take it. I am taking Pharm right now online through Kingwood College and I LOVE it!!! I highly highly highly recommend taking it through Kingwood if possible. It's very organized and all of the assignments are posted at the beginning of the semester, so you can get ahead if you want....

I still have to get my physical and Tdap... I think that's all I need to get. I got my HEP B series a year and a half ago. I paid for my drug screening online. What do we need to do about the Background check? I guess I will wait for orientation... I am just anxious to get everything done!! Oh, and I think I need to get my TB done as well.

I am attending the June 3rd orientation. I think it might be good for us to exchange names, phone numbers and emails so we can possibly meet up at orientation.

I was looking online at the NH Nursing site and they have a link for different forms. I am thinking the one for the physician to sign off on shots/physical is there. I will have to double check.

Thumbs up Re: New "09" Fall Lone Star North Harris Students
Congrats to all of the new nursing students! It is true that many of the alternates were able to obtain a spot in the program, so please do not feel defeated. I have 2 weeks left of Nursing II at NH and then off to Nursing III in the Fall. I cannot wait until May 2010. This nursing program is not for the faint hearted I'll tell you that. It is quite doable though. Everyone I know found RNSG 1172 to be a breeze. It's Nursing I that will bring the reality check. Just remember that with nursing school your social life gets a back seat. You will eat, sleep, and breathe CRITICAL THINKING!! Good luck to all!

I want in on the study group too. I have already taken pharm and my hep B series is done. I did however, just find out that I am pregnant w/ my #4 so God's plan isn't always mine lol... but b/c of that I will be getting titers drawn to see what vaccines i need...hopefully, i show immunity to mmr from my childhood shots and maybe pertussis too (so i only need td which is fine for pregnant women) if not then the cdc says tdap is safe in the second trimester and that'd be right after orientation so i'll still be good. i'm due in the christmas break so i'm just taking it one step at a time. i've worked really hard to get here so hopefully i won't have to postpone it another year, but life happens so there's my story! i am also scheduled to take the may 15th cpr class

jeneecw - I graduate May 8th from North Harris - Yea!! Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I know of 3 people that will be graduating with me in a couple of weeks that had babies during our 2 years at NH. They were able to hang in there and get through nursing school and I'm sure you can too. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that it can be done. Good luck to you...and all the others recently accepted!!

clac2009:

first of all congrats you've almost made it!! and thank u so much for your encouraging words. would you mind asking your classmates (if u don't already know) if they recommend telling your professors about your pregnancy or at what point to tell them... i suspect there will be certain teachers that will pressure me to leave. i've heard good and bad things but nothing specifically about how north harris adn program treats pregnant students

Congrats Jeneecw,, you will be fine....
I was able to get my CPR done today,,, I am happy to have gotten that out the way... I was going to pay for the May 15th class until one of my friends told me to hold on until this week and lucky for me I was able to get it done today... Yippie....
I had my blood work done last week Tuesday, so tomorrow I will have my physical done and of course shots.... I am counting it down... I also paid for my drug test too Lizzienick311, so I was waiting for an email telling me when and where to go and take the drug test, the email never came, so I callled them and they told me north harris will let me know when to go and take the drug test. SO, I guess we just have to wait until they notify us, I was thinking maybe we will have to go after orientation..

Nurse723- I am also signed up for NH pharm,,, I guess we will have to be study partners.. for this class.. Did you know its a hybrid class?

Lizzienick311 - is the Kingwood pharm a hybrid class or is it strickly online.. If so, I might just switch, I really dont want to miss work for now to go on campus.. I want to make all the money I can before that big day come around..
I think it will be a great idea for us to exchange emails and phone numbers..

The Pharm class through Kingwood that I am in is strictly ONLINE only - we only met at the campus for orientation (which I couldn't attend because of my sick kids) and we take all of our weekly tests online - The professors are Candi Seaback and Nickie Loftin - I am working full time and have 2 kids by myself, so I needed the strictly online course until I start the program. When you register on My records it should specify if the class meets on campus -
