Need Info on LVN to Scrub Nurse Certs

Hi! I am new to this site and would really like some advice. I am currently a nurse in a psychiatrist office and have been here for 3 1/2 years. I am no longer challenged and would like to change my field. Being a scrub nurse really interests me but it has been so long since in the actual medical field I am having a hard time getting out of my current situation. Recenlty applied for a job at an orthopedics office but was passed up due to lack of experience. Hospital here is needing a scrub nurse but needing to be certified. I have been unable to find any place that offers that certification. I am not opposed to more schooling.

Is it a job for a scrub nurse or a certified scrub tech? I was recently hired at a hospital and got OJT for scrubbing in on C-Sections. I don't need a certification because I'm already an LPN. However without a nursing license a scrub tech must be certified by graduating from an approved program and passing an exam. I would try contacting the HR to find out more details.

hi There!

Im not in Texas, but I can give you some info. Since the hospital is asking for certification, you will have to go back to school. The Surgical Tech classes range anywhere from 9months - 2 years (diploma/certificate - Assoc. Degree). Just make sure it is CAAHEP-accredited, as this is the only way to acheive the more accepted and recognized CST accrediation. http://www.arcst.org/ASP/CompleteList.asp should give you the complte list of schools that are CAAHEP accredited. Also check out the AST.org website, its very useful.

As the other poster said, it is also possible to get a job scrubbing with On the Job training, they are used mostly in for OB, but that still will not count for you , if you want to get certified and work elsewhere.

Good Luck!
