need help--how to finance a 2nd degree!?

hello!

I am about to begin a 2nd bachelor's degree (an ABT program) and I am having difficulty securing aid. Anyone have any suggestions, tips, or something they tried? Who is the most lenient lender, etc.?? I am so excited about this program but my anxiety about the finances is beginning to outweigh my excitement....

Thanks in advance...

I've had good experiences with Sallie Mae for loans: www.SallieMae.com

Right now, I am working 3 jobs in order to amass enough money to avoid taking out another student loan. I am single with no spouse or children, so I can currently devote my time to the workplace unless I experience a major life change.

Most of my classmates had loans through the government. Some of my classmates took money from local hospitals that gave a certain amount/semester in exchange for a work commitment after graduation. Also, many of my classmates recieved small grants from the Good Samaritan Foundation http://www.gsftx.org/scholarships/. Good luck!

I'm a second degree student too. I was able to get fed student loans (I had to write a special essay that went to my school stating why I was getting a second degree) and I got a private loan to cover additional bills and expenses through sallie mae.

I feel your pain! I also am getting my second degree, and I was shocked when I found out I couldnt get any loan money or scholarships!! My first problem is since it's a second degree, and it's not a graduate degree, when I apply for FAFSA, they base it off my dad's income- not mine- although I am the one paying for it!! Ugh, that makes me so mad.
Anyhow, first of all, try to talk to the school you are going to and see what they have to say. I talked to financial aid and told them my situation, and the school gave me a small scholarship. I was also able to get money through Sallie Mae-- however, there is a limit-- maybe $25,000 that they will grant you. Good luck, and dont let it turn you away from nursing school! Once you complete your first semester, if you get a job at the hospital, sometimes they'll pay your tuition. Best of luck!!
