Moving to Bay City TX

Updated Nov 06, 2007 at 04:48 PM by RNinfamily

Aloha,

I will be moving to Bay City Tx summer 2008 from Hawaii. The local newspaper online does not have any job openings for nurses.

Is there anybody from that area that can give my some indication on where to look for a RN job.

Mahalo

You'll need to commute to Houston, which is the major city in this region, for nursing jobs. There are numerous RN jobs in Houston.

Thanks, TheCommuter

I was hoping that there would be something a little closer than Houston. Maybe in Wharton, Sugarland or some other surrounding town

Aloha!

I live in Austin and a pre nursing student, BUT, I am from Bay City. I hust had to respond because I was shocked to see a question regarding Bay City. I know there is a hospital and the area is actually growing rapidly right now. The newspaper is the Bay City Tribune, you could check that out. Wharton would be a good commute and another area that would be closer than Sugar Land would be Lake Jackson. Why did you choose Bay City? Just curious... Good luck and please feel to ask any general questions about the area. I hope your not too disappointed, it will be a huge culture shock from Hawaii!

Hi! RN2BENAUSTIN

My husband did recruiting (Marine Corps) in that area some years ago and made some good friends.

He would like to open his own business after retiring and with the growth expected in the area, we thought Bay City would be the prefect place.

However, finding a nursing job is the problem now. I have tried the paper, the schools, the city(public health), the community college(nursing instructor), I have even tried locating the names of the reactors to see if they needed a nurse.

If you have any other suggestions on where to find work I would appreciated it.

I have experience in Pediatric, Public Health Nursing, Telephone Triage but would be willing to learn a new area.

Thanks for replying,

Foxyhill,

You may be thinking of Nassau Bay, one of the communities in the Clear Lake area and home to Christus St. John Hospital.

Baytown is another city in the Greater Houston area (east of Houston off I-10) that is sometimes confused with Bay City.

Galveston is a little to far of a commute. Actually any commute would be difficult I have two small childre 6 and 18mo.

So, please keep those ideas coming, any thoughts you have I would be grateful.
