Spring semester application period is from July 9th to September 15th. You can apply to the spring program and the fall program. I have heard you need a higher HESI score if you are trying to get into the spring program (as in nothing lower than an 89 on the reading portion of the HESI), but every semester is different. Good luck!

No I haven't started my CPR training yet...I will be looking at CyFair to see if they offer anything there. I'll post any information I find.

LoneStar college charges $51.00 plus $16.00 for materials (I think) you'll have to look at the continuing education link for a class listing. The only classes available are coming up soon and are located either at the Woodlands or North Harris, but the website did not specifically say BLS for Healthcare Providers.

I have signed up for the (Instruction By Masters) class this Friday 4/24 (9 AM - 11:30 AM) to get it over with. I'm currently taking pharmacology at HCC and barely have any free time (the class is DIFFICULT!), Friday was one of the only days I had available. I'm hoping HCC pharmacology will transfer to CyFair even though they are different course #s. HCC was my back-up plan if I did not make it into this program, but alas, I did. I just want to finish it off and be done with this course.

Anyways, if any one is reading this before 4/24, sign up for the CPR class with me. At least I'll know someone before starting the program.

I have also heard the program was tough, but I've also spoken with some of the people who work there and they are all very helpful. In the end it is all worth it...here's some encouragement... I took this off the LoneStar "archived news link". It's about our college!

The 2008 Texas Board of Nursing National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is a computerized examination designed to test knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry level. NCLEX examination results are an important component used by boards of nursing to make decisions about licensure.
Both Lone Star College-CyFair and Lone Star College-Tomball reported a 100 percent passing rate on the NCLEX while LSC-Kingwood, LSC-North Harris and LSC-Montgomery all reported a 90 percent passing rate or greater..."



Did you read that? Our college as of 2008 had a 100% pass rate for the first timers taking the NCLEX! Not too many colleges can say that! For the full article, here's the link...

As far as the Fall semester application, you are able to select up to 3 out of 4 colleges in the Program when you apply. You select your choices in order of preference from a drop down menu on the application. I would imagine that you would be able to do that for the Spring semester too if those colleges offer a Spring starting term.

You are right about the pool of applications. They get your application first based on your score out of 12 points and go in order from highest to lowest until all the spots are full. When your application is selected they see if there is availability at your highest preference college, and if not, they go down your list until they can put you in somewhere.

As far as which school is the best...everyone has differing opinions as far as lectures, clinicals, professors, etc... You shouldn't base your choice on what other people say. Base your choice on the facts. I think any accredited school that has a NCLEX first-time pass rate of 90% or higher would be a great school to get your education. In the end it's not where you graduated from, it's whether or not you get the knowledge and skills needed to pass the NCLEX, and a college's NCLEX history report would give you that information. All of LoneStar colleges and HCC are at a 90% rate or better.
