I will be starting the program in the fall and was wondering about the varicella vaccine. what do they consider acceptable proof of having the chicken pox in the past. Will I have to get a titer for that .
Also where can I take the CPR.
Thanks

luckymama21,
I think you will have to get a titer done if you don't have your records from childhood. Thats what I did. I'll ask people in my class if a letter from youe doctor is acceptable, but I'm pretty sure it won't be... Cy-fair is very particular. I wouldn't suggest taking CPR at any of the colleges it takes way too long like all day 8-5. I looked up on the internet cpr classes american heart assoc and found a woman who did it in her house, it took about 3 hours and I left with my cpr card. remember you need a certain cpr... for health care providers (BLS) let me know if you need anything else I'm off for a couple weeks!

Thank you ctgirl43!

You have mentioned that you do have to go to school during the summer, does that pertain to students who only start in the Spring or is it for both Spring and Fall? Also, are you allowed a smartphone or some kind of PDA device for clinicals, or do you have to lug around a drug guide book? Thank you in advance!

Luckymama - here's the CPR class I attended last week, it was great! It's about 2 1/2 to 3 hours long.

Instruction By Masters
713-706-3001
2828 Rogerdale Suite #1
Houston, TX 77042

The location is in an apartment that has been converted into an office. The class size was about 8 people. When you complete the course, you get the card the same day. The person who taught it was Charles Masters. It is the BLS for healthcare providers (American Heart Association). They offer a class almost everyday except Sunday. The cost is $40 if you pay in cash and $45 if you pay by credit card. There are no extra materials that need to be purchased.

diNyla,
I believe everyone goes to school the first summer because you are in school 5 semesters. I can't answer your question yet about the PDA because I haven't started clinicals yet but when I know I'll let you know. I noticed people asking about Pharmacology..I took pharm at Kingwood before I applied to cyfair, cyfair took my pharm grade. This was the first year they did that they used to make you test out of the class but all I had to do was fill out a course substitution form I had an A in pharm and I think thats what you had to have. I took pharm 1301 but Cyfair wants you to have pharm 1201, if this helps anyone.

Hi everyone! I hate to jump in on your thread but I am working on getting into the program (just starting) and was wondering about the HESI test at Cy-Fair. Can any of you tell me about it? Is it difficult? What kind of study guides should I get? I have been out of school for almost 10 years (YIKES!) so I really need to brush up on my study skills. If all goes to plan I hope to be taking the test in the fall of this year.

Any little nuggests of wisdom you can share with me would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!!
Kyla

CyFair college library does have a HESI study guide you can look at while in the library. You have to go to the front area where you would check things out and request it. It is not difficult at all. The reading comprehension questions in an SAT book were more difficult than what was on the HESI. So, if you can answer SAT questions than you'll do excellent. You only need to take the reading and math portion of the test. You will also get your score right away.

Default Update on intent to enroll
Hi everyone!

I just received an email stating that the deadline for intent to enroll has been moved up from June 15 to May 15! Make sure you have everything turned in by then (by 5 pm). Did anyone else receive the same email? I guess they want to start sending out those letters for people who are still wanting to get in...

Default Support Group for Class of 2011
Notice from the title...I'm already creating a support group for the class of 2011...

SUPPORT GROUP FOR CLASS OF 2011

I have a facebook account and I created a group for CyFair nursing students class of 2011. In other words, those of us starting this Fall 2009. It is meant as a support system for all of us as we struggle through the 2 years of the grueling work ahead of us. It was also created to try to set up study groups and ask questions to each other if we are having problems and need clarification. It is also for networking. My opinion is that we need all the support we can get from each other. It is a private group and by invite only, so if you want to join you'll have to let me know via this forum, PM, or when I meet you face-to-face

I'm hoping all of you will want to join. If you do, send me a PM through here with your information...(the email that is listed with facebook). If you're not able to PM me and want to join, make a post here letting me know.

Hmmm....maybe if I'm bold enough I'll make an announcement during orientation...LOL

CreoleFromtheBoot - I sent you an invite already since I have your facebook info.
