I pray that this time it is NOT timed. I don't operate under pressure when all my nerves are kicking in. My questions 4 u, was the HESI timed by your test proctor and what study material did u use? Congrats 2 u. I am faithfuly praying to get into this program. I have done all I can do to get to this point. What else am I to give of myself. Again congrats.
Reading this sounds sooo much like myself! DO NOT get discouraged!! You will do well on the hesi! To answer your questions...I took it again on the 7th and yes it was timed. I read somewhere a couple weeks ago (when I felt the same as you do now) some do's and don'ts that really helped when taking a test like this. On top of the list was, do not look at the clock, it is a distraction and takes you a few minutes to get back on track after you've done so. I used the blue hesi pre entrance book, which did help, but not much. If anything it helped me out on the math part. It covered mostly everything. What are you having problems with bc I am here to help. I actually just got home about an hour ago from helping someone for about 4 hrs with preparing for the reading part. I am not a genius, but have taken that darn thing 3 times and know exactly what to expect!

I know exactly how you feel as I have been working on getting my points as high as possible for a couple yrs now. It seems like you'll never get in, and that's just silly to think! You will! Let me help if I can.

Thank u. You are a God sent. I get depressed because I want this for my life soooo bad. I read other nursing applicant posters saying "I GOT IN" to whatever nursing program and drown myself in tears wishing it was me. I hope I can answer all the questions from the math and the reading within the time frame allotted. The reading comprehension, I must nail it. I read NET reading comp. practice tests, I read the HESI A2 study guide, I read some material that is available on the internet, over and over making copies 10 or more of the practice test in the book trying to absorb the material the best way I can. I have high test anxiety. I feel comfortable when I take a test by myself, but when I am among other applicants I just drown in grief. I know I sound like a complete wreck, but my career of choice is at stake. I have been down this testing road 3 times. I have a full-time day job that supports my mortgage, so the only night program I can apply is for Kingwood. I have all the pre-reqs to apply for the BSN programs but my full-time day job is keeping the mortgage paid. Kingwood is my only shot.

Again, this is me all over! I also have test anxiety I found out recently. I can not stress enough to not OVER THINK the reading part!!! There are NO hiddent messages, everything you need is right there in the text! When reading, take it up a notch as far as reading speed. When reading the passages multiple times, it causes you to over analyze and cause you to also look for something that is NOT THERE!

The week of the test I did exactly everything I ever heard to do to prepare for a test like the hesi and I really think that everything helped. For example, a couple nights before the test, I was in bed with my eyes closed by 10:30pm. The night before, make sure you know if you don't already, exactly how to get to the school and where to go when you get there! Room number, etc. The morning of the test, I woke up early enough to not be in a rush to get ready, drive there, and allotted extra time in case something came up, which it did. There was an accident on the way there (my luck). On the way, I stopped at smoothie king and got a big fruit filled smoothie, drank on the way there and during the test. They tell you to have a full tummy bc of hunger being a huge distraction! And God knows the anxiety is enough! Same as looking at the clock = distraction! Bringing my "breakfast" in with me also prevented me from getting hungry or even thinking about food! They don't say breakfast is the most important meal of the day for nothing! Think of anything that may be a distraction the day of the test, and try to find a solution for the what if's.

I didn't do any of these things the two times before and did very poorly! So I truly believe that these things helped a lot! Try it, you may find that it has worked for you too! Good Luck!!!!! Let me know how it goes. Stay calm, your going to do great. Don't be pessimistic...sp. Go in there knowing you are going to do just fine. Keep me updated!

I was really excited to find this thread. I am applying to the ADN program for Spring 2010. My first choice is Cyfair because it is closer to where I live and second choice is Kingwood. I really hope I make the cut, I spent all summer working hard to get every co-requisite done. As soon as my final two classes get added to my score sheet I will be able to submit my application with an 11.7448. I wish everyone the best of luck and hope to meet some of you in the program come January.

Good luck to all,
mandy
