License good for less than a year?

No, you'll need to renew every 2 years in Texas. In addition, the Texas BNE stopped sending out paper card licenses this year to curb the practice of fraud, so you won't be receiving any hard copy license in the mail.

Your renewal date corresponds with your birthday. People who were born in odd numbered years (1971, 1965, 1983, etc.) will always renew during odd numbered years (2009, 2011, etc.) around the time of their birth month. People who were born during even numbered years will always renew during other even numbered years (2010, 2012, etc.).

If you have to renew so soon, you were probably born during an odd numbered year. Don't worry, because after this year's renewal you won't need to renew until late 2011.

And...you won't need to have proof of 20 hours of continuing eduducation for this first renewal period. But for your next renewal period, your 20 CEs must be dated between Nov2009-Nov2011.

I have a copy of my license which the board mailed to me a couple of weeks ago....

They're still sending the certificate for the initial license. It's the wallet cards that have gone away.

This is not a new RN, so she/he may have to show CEU's. ??????


As far as the little card, I got one for my initial licensure in June. I wonder if they only quit sending out the cards for renewals?


BTW, I got my license in June 2008, was born in an odd-numbered year, and I have to renew this Nov, 2009. So, it's not a rare occurrence. (It should be 2011 when I have to renew again.)

When I first endorsed from the State of Mn to Florida my florida license was granted I believe it was in Feb, dang wouldn't you know I was up for renewal the following July. of the same year. Ever since then it has been every two years by July 31.

The State of Texas stopped using paper licenses in September, 2008.
