Invitation letter from UT Houston???

Hi everybody,
I'm new in this forum, and I already love it.
I hope somebody can help me with this question regarding UT. I received an invitation letter, where I'm applying for the BSN program in the Fall 2005.
Has anybody else here on this board already underwent the questionnaire? What can I expect? It's really freaking me out, because they are also mentioning a writing sample at the time of the interview
How can I prepare myself?

Thank you
Ginger

In the program now, second semester.

I think I pulled the following info directly from the UT-Houston website last year:

School’s goal: self-directed nursing generalists who are able to function in a variety of settings.

Evaluated on:

  • Communication skills
  • Experience in dealing with people
  • Experience in health care
  • Ability to articulate career goals
  • Community service
  • Communication skills

Looking for:

  • Analytical person
  • People person
  • Someone who will finish the program
  • Seriousness of purpose (to pursue a college education)
  • Intellectual ability (to handle college work)
  • Intellectual curiosity (about ideas, academic subjects, people, trends)
  • Creativity (way mind works to solve problems)
  • Maturity
  • Concern for others
  • Initiative
  • Enthusiasm
  • Confidence (in your ability to handle difficult situations)
  • Being organized
  • Sense of humor
  • Diligence/persistence
  • Leadership
  • Risk taking (as shown in your ability to deal with uncertainty in order to reach your goal)
  • Insight (as reflected in your ability to use introspection to understand aspects of yourself: preferences > motivation)
  • Optimism
  • Compromise
  • Overcome adversity
  • What kind of interpersonal skills does the candidate possess?
  • Have potential/living up to potential?
  • Is candidate motivated? How does she show motivation?
  • Leading passions? Intellectual/personal/extracurricular
  • What qualities are the least and most impressive
The writing sample just asked how you would handle/react to a given situation. I think the goal is to figure out whether you are an analytical thinker or not.

A tip I received from a friend...when they ask you why you want to be a nurse don't say "to help people". They want a response that takes a little more thought than that.

I would research the school and also search the web for information regarding nursing and what it means to be a nurse.

Hope this helps! Good luck!!

Default hi everyone - question abt Brookhaven
does anybody have any experience with the Brookhaven nursing school (Dallas) - the one that branched off from El-Centro a year ago or so....their program is new so does this mean it's a risk to go there? do they have a good name out there, in hospitals etc?
how is their program compared to Collin County?
thanks so much.....I have about a week left to take the HESI and apply.... :Melody: :Melody:

I wish everybody that applied to an BSN program will get accepted.

My first school of choice was UTHSC, but I think I be just as happy to get into TWU Houston, my GPA consist right now of an 3.91. so I think l will get an scholarship easier at TWU than at UTHSC

HBU would be my least school of choice, simply of their high tuitition rate, but hey if none of the others will accept me, I guess we just have to suck it up for the next 2 years...

25% chance of admittance is not bad, so guys don't worry, I think we all have a good chance to get accepted.
Peace Ginger
