Houston, Texas Bound

I am currently in my last semester of a BSN program and will graduate in December 2006. I plan to move to the Houston area in January 2007. What are some good/safe areas to live in?

I either want to work at one of the hospitals downtown or UTMB in Galveston. Any info on any of the hospitals?

How good of an area is Friendswood/Clear Lake? Is it better to live close to the Med Center downtown or commute from the suburbs?

Also, I'm planning on either renting an apartment or townhome in the area that I choose before buying a house in the area.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Friendswood/Clear Lake area is great, with nice clean neighborhoods and great for kids too!! It can be a little expensive, but it is worth it. Commuting can be a nightmare, but there a park-and-rides that make it alot easier. The advantage is you will be close to both UTMB and The Medical Center. Another good area is The Woodlands, but UTMB would be quite a hall. Good luck and welcome to H-Town!!!

Friendswood/Clear Lake are both nice areas. Also look at Kingwood on the north side of Houston. Commuting is a bear though, but I think it is worth it.

I am planning to move to Houston in December as well. I am looking at homes online to buy. I was wondering if you could give me a good estimate of commute time from Kingswood to downtown Houston.
Thank you.

Thank you.
Depending on traffic, +-45 minutes. There are 2 hospitals in or near Kingwood. Kingwood hosp, and Northeast (nehmc.com)

for astnm: I don't know what website you are using but try www.har.com if you haven't already

I live in Kingwood and here is the ONLY problem from living there.... Kingwood Drive... it is the main road to Hwy 59 and it takes over 30mins to get down. It adds much time to a commute. If you are looking for houses, look on a mapsearch engine and see where in Kingwood it is. I LOVE living in Kingwood, but I would suggest buying a house closer to the highway and not in the back.

Pearland, Friendswood and Clearlake are all nice communities. Depending on the time you commute it is not bad to downtown if you live close to a main spoke or the Beltway. I am a newbie here too and the thing that was most disconcerting was how huge this city is. Housing is reasonable but the utilities and taxes are hugely different from the Northwest. Use the HAR website and you can get a pretty good feel for how the neiborhoods are.
