Houston RN pay?

Hi, y'all!
I'm planning to relocate to Houston or Conroe this coming year. Does anyone know how much money RNs generally make? Thanks!

Your profile indicates you have about 3 years of experience, which would fetch in the middle 20s per hour.

Pay depends on your experience and where you work. I'm a new grad and I make in the mid 20s. Generally, the medical center is going to pay slightly higher ($1-2/ hour) higher then the hospitals in the 'burbs.

Should be higher than that. All the hospitals in that area (Methodist Willowbrook, MHTW, St. Luke's) are starting new grads at about $24.50. I don't know about Conroe Regional, but it's an HCA hospital so I haven't even asked.

Med center pay is almost 30/hr

However, take into account parking and traffic, and your commute is much longer.

Trust me, I work there! Love it though!

Critical care areas (i.e., L&D, ICU, ER, PACU) typically have a higher pay scale. These should easily fetch you high 20's even with just 3 years of experience.

As far as where to work goes......I never have cared much for HCA facilities. I typically get the lowest offers from those facilities when I have interviewed there. I think anyone with the opportunity should definitely experience the hospitals in the medical center. The atmosphere and drive in there is intoxicating.

I have another question...Do Med Center employees have to pay for parking? I work at a teaching hospital on an University campus and I have to pay a good $10/paycheck for a parking decal since I work days/eves.

Depends on the hospital. I know parking is free at Texas Childrens', for instance, but the lot is a substantial distance away and they bus you to the door.

What methylene said, depends on the campus. I think Hermann charges $15 per month?? Can't be too sure but yeah, most campuses charge a nominal fee for parking. Most people are shuttled via a light rail train from remote parking, others are take a bus provided by the campus they work for.

I think you'll find the medical center here exciting and challenging. Best of luck to you.

BTW, how's the pay in Florida??

I wish!!! Its more along the lines of 100$ per month if you choose to pay for employee parking in the garage.

They dont want their employees parking in the garage and taking up patients and visitor space.

Parking is free if I choose to park off site, which I do. I am shuttled in via the metro bus that runs from the parking lot, to the hospital and back. It can take an extra 5-15 minutes, but I dont care, its worth it.

I park in the garage on weekends and holidays, as its free then for all employees.

Otherwise, its 10-12$ a day for the parking garages in the med center.

I only park in the garage on days im running late, or its downpouring, or I just want to park there. Perhaps once every month or two I do this.
