Houston BSN/ADN nursing programs

My fiance is wanting to go to school for nursing starting in the fall. We will be living in Spring, Texas. He has some credits from before he joined the Navy and some from while he was in the Navy that may cover his general education classes. Does anyone have any recommendations on what colleges and by when he needs to apply? Also, I've read on here about long waiting lists for the nursing programs. Is this true for all of the colleges down there?

If you will be living in Spring you will be "in district" for the Lonestar College system. All of the colleges in the system offer an ADN/RN program. The application period for the fall has ended, or will end very soon. In order to have a chance to get in your fiance will need to take several classes and take an entrance exam. You can find the information on the lonestar.edu website. In addition there are several other 2 year colleges, and several 4 year colleges in Houston that offer ADN and BSN programs. It is probably too late for the fall semester for most of the schools, but maybe he can plan for the spring or following fall.

I think the best thing for you guys to do is go online to the varies nursing schools and see what pre-reqs are needed so that he can see what he has and doesn't have. Then check out the deadlines to apply for the schools. If he needs more pre-reqs Lonestar colleges offer all the classes he'll need. Locally there's Lone star college system that offers ADN and then your BSN through Priairie view, then for BSN there's UT, TWU, Priairie View and Houston Baptist. Good luck!

He will also be required to attend an "Information Session" for LoneStar before he can even take the required HESI exam. Definitely go to the websites as they all are great at providing most of the information you will need. However, I will warn you now...if they say a class is a "co-req" course, meaning you can take it during the nursing program...forget it...now a days, applicants are finding it very difficult to be accepted without having all of the science coreqs and most of the other coreqs. For example, LoneStar is a point system and the more coreqs you have completed the higher your points. You need as high a point as possible to get accepted. Good luck!
