Houston area new grad ... no internship?

Hi! I graduated May 07 from TWU and moved out of state for a while and have not yet worked as an RN, although I am licensed. Are there any Houston area hospitals (preferably w/ a high risk nursery or NICU) that don't require an internship for new grads or have an internship that has not yet deadlined for the winter?

Thank you!

Your best bet would be to hurry and contact the nurse recruiters for the hospitals you are interested in and ask them.

Good luck!

As Meghan mentioned, hurry and contact the nurse recruiters. The NICU is competitive in Houston for new grads and some of the deadlines have already passed. I don't think you can even get a NICU job without an internship here if you don't already have NICU experience. You might have to settle for something else or just wait until the summer. Hospitals here hire new grads in January and June. Good luck with your search!

I did my transition clinicals in the level III NICU at TCH so I'm pretty familiar with it. I ended up taking a full pt load really early in the semester. I've applied for NICU slots at several of the HCA hospitals last Fri online and I'm calling tomorrow to followup. Thanks!

Oohh, if anyone has the Kingwood recruiter's number, please PM it to me..Conroe, too! I already have CLRMC and Woman's. Thanks!

Hi, I would suggest you contact the HCA hospitals(conroe and clearlake) and if possible, go there yourself and go straight to the unit directors offices. Speak with them and be sure to have your resume available. I do agency with these two hospitals and they are always short. So, I'm quite sure one of them would take you and train you to be their nurse even though you don't have the necessary experience. The fact is that they are always short and don't have more qualified nurses who are wanting to stay.
I don't know much about woman's 'cos i haven't worked with them yet but have few of my friends who works there. They always say how good the hospital is. Over there, they might require some experience.
If you end up getting a job there, i would say to go there as CLRMC and Conroe's job might be more "stressful" , expecially Conroe(just my thought from working for them). But what you need is to get in and once you get in, you can always tranfer from one HCA facility to another.

For the phone numbers, just type the mname of the hospital and get an address and phone number to the hospital online. Call and tell them to transfer you to HR and you can get the recruiter's number that way

Goodluck!!

Thank you much! I've applied at all 3 now. NICU was full of newbies already at CLRMC but L&D isn't so I need to follow up with that. I called the other two, and Kingwood, today and got voicemail for everyone - I guess because it's the day before Thanksgiving. I'll call 'em again on Monday.

Is it stressful at Conroe just because it's newer?

Not really, IMHO, I think it is basically because there aren't much nurses who are willing to travel that far to work, so they are almost always short. And whenever it happens, the ones around are overloaded and has to do the work.

All the BEST!

Is there any specific reason why you say CLRMC is stressful?
