Houston apartment: safe and reasonably priced

Hi guys,
I am looking for an apartment in Houston that is near the Med Center or Galleria area, that is affordable and safe. I want something that is 500-525 a month, with some bills paid, ie lights. Where I live now is very expensive and my lease is up at the end of this month. I love my area now and I am comfortable here, but I am not working so I have to leave. I don't have a roommate option, so that is out of the question. If anyone has any ideas please pass them on. I am up to my neck in books so I don't have a lot of time to look for a place. Any advice would be appreciated!!!

At the price you are stating, it will be difficult to find one with lights paid ,but if it is a one bedroom without lights paid that is a good price range to have. Haveyou tried those little free apartment books that are usually found in Kroger or randalls they will give you alot of choices. I hope this helps

I agree with Rob. Downtown Houston is very high priced but people pay it so they don't have to commute. My sister is in a gated executive apt and pays well over 1500 month. I don't think you will find a really safe place in a decent area for what you're asking but good luck.

My uncle who was starting a business down in Houston had to move down there to start up his business without my aunt and my cousin. At that time he just got an apartment in downtown Houston close to where you are wanting. He finally chose a gated community and just for a one bedroom plus den which he used for his office it was a thousand dollars no bills included or anything. And that was quite a while ago. I doubt you will find the price range that you are looking for unless you go to one of the suburbs like Conroe since you want something that is safe.

You can check out: www.apartmentguide.com and www.rent.com for apartment listings. I have looked myself for medical center area apartments. There are few in the 500/month range but those don't include utilities. Good luck to you.
