Which hospitals claim to be on a hiring freeze?

I am so sick and tired of people from other parts of the country commenting about "Not Hiring or No Jobs" in Texas

HMMM, I'm in the DFW area, also. Although there are some jobs, they are not plenty. Hiring freezes taking place along with a sharp downturn in agency work is the reality here. It may not be as bad as other areas of the country; but, it is bad in comparision to only a year ago. I'm kinda sick and tired of people from my part of the country taking offense at the truth

Hmm, I don't exactly agree with you there. The majority of the people in my class have not been able to find jobs yet. Some of them may have lost the battle for the most competitive spots and are being too picky, but quite a few have been trying to get jobs in med/surg from the beginning. I have friends from other nursing programs that say the exact same thing.

People that graduated last May did not have as much trouble finding a job as this year's May graduates. The fact is that there are hiring freezes and there are a lot of nurses returning to the field after not working. The job openings are limited.

There is more than a hiring freeze going on in Houston. The nursing shortage does exist ,but people should be more detailed. There is a shortage of experienced nurses. I went to a job fair hosted by nurse week a couple weeks ago and most of the hospitals there were not hiring new grads. MD Anderson said they were on a hiring freeze for new grads.Womens Hospital is also on a hiring freeze. TCH is on a hiring freeze.Kindred Hospital TMC does not have a new grad program. HCA hospitals and Tenet Hospitals are the last hospitals still hiring. The HCA hospitals told me at the job fair that even though they are hiring, they can only hire a few grad nurses. West Houston is about to start interviewing and have even requested that applicants write a 350 word essay about "why there are in the field of nursing and why they chose West Houston.I know a lot of December grads who still have not found jobs. Now the May grads are feeling the squeeze also. I asked one nurse recruiter from Tenet about how come they were accepting less new grads and she said "New grad nurses cost about $3,000 each to train." So I am not surprised that hospitals are hiring less new grads with this economy. Even if the hospital is not losing money ,they are probably tried to scale back costs. My advice would be to steer away from the Houston TMC and start applying to the cities surrounding Houston.

My wife started job searching a 3 weeks ago.

She just rec'd her LPR card to work in USA, She Graduated from a Philippines Nursing school last year, and just passed NCLEX.

She has had 3 Interviews and 2 phone interviews in the D/FW MetroMess so far.

I look at Hospitals and look at all the job openings they have in D/FW MetroMess, Jobs are there for the pickings.

My wifes Clinical Intructor came to USA in August last year and is working in West Texas Hospital and she started at $30 per hour and got a $15K signing bonus. She told me she works about 20 hours overtime per week due to the lack of Nurses

Bottom Line, the jobs are here in the areas I mentioned, you just got to be hungry and be able to land them..
