MD Anderson is in the middle of a hiring freeze. I work there and that is the official news from the powers that be. I also talked to a soon-to-be new grad who had just finished the interviewing process and was extended an offer to start work when she graduates in May. However, she failed to accept the offer before the hiring freeze was announced (she was 1 day late) and her offer was revoked.

Its tough, but the economy will recover and things will turn around. Just need to be persistent.

That is awful! I hope she gets another job offer that works out better for her.

I had my interview at MD Anderson in February. I got a call from a a recruiter last week who told me to "hang tight" because I as a PSNE (student nurse extern) we will be the first ones they will consider once the hiring freeze is "lifted". I was worried for awhile, because it was taking so long. I have however accepted another position - The next day I was called by a hospital I interviewed for in California, and I got an offer. My advice is to keep yourself updated and find out when the freeze is lifted. The recruiter I spoke to encouraged me to "spread the word" to my friends and classmates

Haha. I know that! Replying to the other person who was looking into the ER (Mostly because everyone forgets about St. Joseph's since it's in such a weird location.).

Though I am surprised at how early NICU did their hiring compared to the other units here. There's gonna be like 16 new people in June in the NICU. Hopefully I will be night shift by then. Almost 90 new interns total. I don't really think MH TMC constitutes as having a hiring freeze for new grads with those numbers.

No I mean I did the new grad internship at St. Joseph a while back and they did take me in for it after most other hospitals closed off apps for new grads.

There are many hospitals in the Houston area that may not be on a hiring freeze, but are not looking to hire new grads.

Outside the med center, many of the suburban facilities aren't offering internship programs this year or have scaled back significantly. One particular Memorial Hermann facility our program utilizes heavily for clinicals did not call back a single person in our 70 person class.

To date, the only ones in my class who have found jobs are those that are previously LVNs or work as a tech at a hospital.

Ya'll come on up north from Houston to Longview, we have lot's of openings, experienced and new grad alike. (new management filling in the short workforce of the previous management) We still have sign on and referral bonuses, so shoot me a PM for more info.

I am so sick and tired of people from other parts of the country commenting about "Not Hiring or No Jobs" in Texas

I am in the D/FW area and there are plenty of jobs for nurses and new nurses
