? home study Rn courses

by cw2mom

Is anyone familiar with the home study courses to receive your Rn degree? I was just hoping to hear from someone in Texas who has completed one of the courses from chancellors or college network.I am thinking seriously about enrolling.

First think you need to do is go to the Distance Learning area and research what you are about to do. Chancellors and the College Network are not colleges they are publishing companies that charge thousands of dollars for study guides. They do not grant degrees but they sure do make you think they can. You can look up Excelsior college they are a distance learning program for people with clinical experience such as LVN's , paramedics and RT's ( there are more but you get the idea) then there is Indiana State University they have a LVN to BSN program. Not all programs are accepted in all states and that is a MAJOR factor to consider when deciding to do this. You are in Texas I can tell you that there are many Excelsior grads here in Texas ( however if you go to Excelsior (EC) for your RN license you cannot work in CA)....I am hopefully fixin to be one

I suggest you deal directly with Excelsior. You can find out what you need from their website www.excelsior.edu. If you feel the need to use study guides, you can get the various study guides, used, at great discounts, on ebay. Just be sure, if you decide to enroll with Excelsior, to do so before Oct 1 of this year so that you avoid the curriculum changes that will take place on that day. Good luck to you.

I am an EC grad in Texas. I graduated in Aug 05. I used alot of the College network study guides and they were good. But as earlier stated, You can join many Yahoo study groups and buy them from others at discounted rates. You can also buy them off of Ebay. Also as far as Enrolling in Excelsior before Oct 1, you should check out what the changes are, because if you get your prerequisites done and your first 2 nusing exams, before you actually pay tuition, you may end up saving more money. You dont have to be enrolled in EC to take those first exams. Any questions, please email me. I would be glad to assit

Let me add here that if you are a LVN you are exempt from taking Concepts 2.. If you are really thinking about doing EC you need to get going before all the changes take effect...

I am also a EC grad in Texas. I used EC study guides and checked out the books from the local library through interlibrary loan. I loved the self pace.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi offers a on-line BSN program. You might want to check into that.

It's not completely online. There are clinicals that must be attended.
