HELP....PVAMU vs UTHSCH

id go with UT. because it is a verrrrry competitive program. and if you were selected out of that many applicants. that is truly compelling. i hear nothing but good things about both programs but i do hear more about PV because nobody seems to talk about UT, but there is a whole forum on UT's acceptance for fall 2009. but thats just my personal opinion.

Both schools have a great reputation. I go to UTHSCH, but I have a few family members and friends who go to PV. I wouldn't judge one better than the other. I think ANY nursing school is going to be hard. I had a 4.0 when I applied to nursing school... nursing school changed that You will have to get used to the high volume/demand of work, and you will receive no lenience from professors - sometimes they will schedule 3 tests in one week, even though there is a open week the following week. And if you fail by 0.10 of a point, you fail. I heard the new students have it even harder because they are compressing it into 4 semesters instead of 5. Either school you choose, it will be up to you to make the most of it - You will get NO help from anyone! Here are the pros regarding what I have experienced at UT:
For our last semester in high acuity, they let us rank what hospital and what specialty we would like to do clinicals at. I thought that was a plus. When I graduate I will have over 150 clinical hours in an ICU at a really great hospital.
For the first semester they tried to put us at clinical spots that were convenient to where we were living.
They really encouraged us to get us involved with the hospitals student programs.
Another thing - UTHSCH is ranked as one of the top graduate nursing schools as reported in US world news report. I know in reality this is just a ranking but..
When I interviewed at UCLA medical center in California the senior nurse recruiter knew right away the "UT reputation" and was impressed with the clinical locations I had attended clinicals at. - MD Anderson, Texas Childrens, St. Lukes, Methodist, Meninger - These are all nationally ranked hospitals.
I think PV has good clinical sites too, so I think the choice is up to you.

Well, I think it is a no brainer....UT

I just started at PV this semester and its not easy. But you work hard for what you want.....

All nursing schools are relatively "hard". I'm at UT right now, while I can't say learning the material is all that difficult (if you have a strong foundation in science, math and pharm and anatomy) the time restraints and expectations make it hard. I'm in the 1st group to go through the program in its new form and it's been tough and a little unorganized. We started with about 160 in our class and we are down to 105 or less. Some of those people would have made good nurses but happened to fail and others probably should choose another profession. UT has a fairly good reputation and I feel we get top pick in a lot of things in the TMC and have a lot of opportunities. The faculty is ok but, there are a lot of attitudes and egos amoungst the staff (likely to find at any SON). If you are confident and know your stuff you'll never have a problem with faculty at all. One major con about UT is they don't really "teach" much clinically related material, you are expected to learn it on your own in the clinical setting. I'm not sure how it is at PV but, I haven't heard anything bad about it.

How was the school? I applied for Spring 2010 , and havent heard anything back yet? Can anyone tell me more about the application process? How long did you wait to get the acceptance letter?

Which school? PVAMU or UTH? UT Houston is still currently interviewing possible candidates. You won't hear anything from UTH until mid November. As for PVAMU I also applied there and they usually send out their acceptance/decline letter late October or early November. What was your gpa and NEt scores applying to PVAMU?
Mines is 3.6 Science and 3.5 Regular. 97% Math 64% Reading . I hope I can get into PVAMU this Spring 2010. I heard it was first come first served, which is pretty gay, I turned in my application October 1st because I took the last Net testing session which was on September 19.

I applied UTh. My Science GPA is 3.75 and regular is 3.33. My overall net is 80%
I got 100% on Math and 615 on reading.
