Hmm... I'm not familiar with "HCC" but I can tell you that you're certainly not too old.
There is a post at the top of the Texas Nurses Forum that will aid you in finding info about schools. Check with the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners website to find the NCLEX pass rate for your school. That will give you some idea of how well they prepare their students to pass the exam.
Talk with the advisor at your school to see if they can give you an idea of how many people don't make it through the first year of their program. That will give you a small clue as to the difficulty of the program.
Keep in mind - all nursing schools are difficult and it's that way for a reason. You'll have to be very focused but that doesn't mean that the classes are "hard". They're just different from anything you've done before.
If you already have a bachelor's degree you may be able to go through an accelerated program. Check with the universities in your area to see if one is available.
And relax. You'll be fine.
