Group One consumer Info

by leigh21

PPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE help!!! I worked in a popular childrens hospital 2.5 years ago. I was pregnant and in my third trimester I had two kidney stones within 6 weeks of each other. The last one almost me into acute renal failure and was put on bed-rest shortly after that. I had not been there a full year, but over 90 days. So, I was allotted 6 weeks for time off. I delivered 2 weeks later after being induced. My Nurse Manager called about my 6 week cut-off date and asked if I had been released and I had not. 2 weeks later she calls me and tells me I am being replaced, I was not upset, disappointed because I graduated in May from Nursing School and really wanted my nursing career and future there. However, I understood. I was finally released 4 weeks after that. I did not know what to do..........after all I had been replaced. I had knee surgery last year and have not worked and am currently employed with an agency, but I wanted to be a part of one of the Metroplexes big named hospitals, I love the unchanging, rush of things. So, I had applied to a few places and was offered a job. The Friday before I was to start orientation I was informed that my background check was not very good. Background check?? What do you mean? I am no criminal, what is this? Well, this hospital I had worked 2.5 years ago reported me to a Group One Consumer Info for letting me go for violation of company policy for working while I was on L.O.A, the "fire" date was 3 months after I had been "replaced." I get ahold of HR and they tell me they have a letter with my signature on it acknowledging I received the letter. OK, well that is some bigger news because I never received a letter from them, the last I had heard from them is I had been replaced. I have never gave it a moments thought, until know. Oh, and if I dispute it they will dispute my dispute. Thus, I will never work in a hospital. I was not a nurse, I never knew anything like this existed. I have not power to fight this, I am astonished. How can someone do this? I have my medical records, but who cares? It is their word against mine and since it's just little old me against the big, bad corp..........Guess who gets screwed? How can my nursing career be over before it even began? I guess I am the stupid one for being so naive. But, when has some one's word been something to rely on? More and more, you learn you cannot trust anyone............................................

Search Group One on this website: you'll finds lots of threads and lots of comments.

Basically, Group One is composed of hospitals, Primarily in the DFW area that pool their 'information'.

A manager can say what she wants and any of the other hospitals within Group One can read the comments.

It's a way to 'blackball' you. I personally would never work for a Group One hospital. I consider participation, BY ITSELF, to be anti-nurse.

But, you can find hospitals that will hire you within Group One: I've had a friend do it - if you explain the problem up front. But it's a crap shoot.

Of course, Group One doesn't extend far beyond DFW, so if you move, no problem at all.

Timothy.

I wasn't even a nurse then. This has happened with a current co-worker and an in-law. Is there no way to protect yourself?

yeah how easy is it to just pick up and leave though? It's unbelieveable that that's even allowed. I just asked about unions in the hospitals in another thread because most hospitals in NYC are unionized and that can NEVER happen here. I accepted a position at a hospital in Dallas that starts in June and I am starting to rethink my decision because the recruiter is so nasty all of a sudden.

Anyway, to the OP, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. It really should be illegal. We work too hard to obtain licenses for this to happen. I wish I could provide you with some information but unfortunately, I have never dealt (and hopefully will never have to) with these people.

I thought we as employees were suppose to be protected from workplace violence and blah, blah, blah. And here this past month all I had worried about was finding a sitter for my kids during orientaion and making sure my application for my RN to BSN were on time. But why even pursue that? My nursing career was done before I started and I never knew.
