Fort Worth -- which hospital for pre-nursing-student experience?

by Agatha

Hi! Are any of the Fort Worth hospitals outstanding as far as experience/training for pre-nursing students? My nursing skills will not likely be any better than the training I receive, and given that, I'd like to start off on the right foot.

Thanks for your input!

That's a good question! I'm trying to find a job as a pre-nursing student too, so I'd love to see the answers.

Of course it's better to go with the bigger hospitals like JPS, Harris Methodist etc.., but there are lot of hospitals in Ft. Worth ranging from small to very large. Don't get set on working at a particular hospital. You can get a good experience at small or medium size hospitals as well. I would just look on-line. Try googling Ft. Worth Hospitals and check out the websites of each particular hospital and see what kind of opportunities they have. When I was a pre-nursing student I wasn't that picky about where I worked or what area as long as it was in the medical field. I was just grateful to get any experience I could even if it wasn't an area I was interested in.

Good luck!

I am going to agree with one of the above posters and go with JPS. I went to various hospitals for nursing school but I graduated from JPS and did the majority of my clinicals there. The stuff that happens at JPS normally dont happen at other hospitals of course this is the county hospital. Sometimes I got down right scared of some of the things I saw and observed but it was such a good learning experience for me.

Default seem to need a CNA course to work?
Skittlez, Humbled, & txspadequeen, thank you for your help! I spoke with a very helpful lady at JPS. They only hire CNA's. So that's my next step ... maybe.

Thanks again for all your help. I've been following your "advice columns" here on allnurses, and you're great.
