I'm not sure if this is the same degree you are talking about, but Texas Woman's University offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree:

I have always wondered how this works... you have a PHD but you are technically a nurse. We normally think of a doctor as an MD but there also Dr's in Physics, English, etc...so are you a Dr or a NP?

DNP is not a PhD, it is a clinical doctorate.

I think this is the same one.

I read that 200 nursing schools have established or plan to launch doctorate of nursing practice programs to equip graduates with skills that are equivalent to primary-care physicians.

Any one know of some schools closer to the Metroplex that offer this course.

This is an extremely controversial proposition -- a few proponents of these programs are making this argument, but there aren't a lot of other people jumping on that particular bandwagon. I suggest you look at some of the threads here discussing the whole DNP proposal. It's not at all clear how this is going to play out over time ...

Thanks for your concerns :

The upside is too hard to resist.

My Fiance just graduated, and she loves school and excels in School.

She has all the time to go back to school, and I own a small company and I am able to afford her to go to school.

So for us it looking like a path we have to take.

Is that a straight BSN-to-DNP program, or does it require you to already have an MSN? Although the long-term idea is for people to go directly from a BSN into a DNP program, at this point it seems that most of the existing programs are designed for people who are already MSN-prepared NPs, for them to go back and just complete the necessary courses to "upgrade" to a DNP.
