I am applying to nursing school in 2009. Background info: I'm 36 in a career change mode, work full time, 1 year old, husband and dog. I take my pre-reqs at night and on line.
I have been focused on applying to TWU's fast track 2009 and Fall 2009 at the same time. My GPA should be a 3.92. IF I get As in the rest of my classes.
I really, really think I would like to work at Baylor hospital. Seems like a great company.
Someone told me to apply to Baylor Nursing School in Dallas. I didn't see anything about a fast track program on their site. Do they have one?
Also, tuition is 3xs as much at Baylor. I'm Thinking I could get help with that, but is it worth going into more debt just to attend Baylor?
Any input from someone who has applied to Baylor and/or TWU?
Would I even have a chance at getting a job at Baylor if I went to TWU?
What other hospitals in Dallas are good to work for?
What is your opinion of the two schools?

Re: Baylor vs TWU
I advise you to attend the school with the cheapest tuition. Nursing educations from TWU and Baylor will lead to the exact same RN licensure, so you might as well take the least expensive road to get there.
I live and work near Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth. The vast majority of the nurses who work there never attended Baylor University. In other words, you can land a job at a Baylor hospital without having a Baylor education.
Most hospitals do not care where you attended school. To them, you are simply a warm body with a nursing license, and they'll hire you as long as you have the willingness to fill their staffing needs.

Re: Baylor vs TWU
If you have RN beside your name and the license to prove it, ANY Baylor hospital will let you work there. I would never in a million years pay the $$$$$$$$$$$$ to get my nursing degree from a private institution. It isn't worth it and the privte schools do NOTHING different than the public schools. UTA also has a great program and they let people attend part-time as well.

Re: Baylor vs TWU
I graduated from TWU May 2007...and it was a great program. Working in most of the Med Center hospitals was amazing as well..and they're all so close to campus ..and then there's the MetroRail that runs by all of them. TWU is affordable and it's a great education. Fast track... wow, those people are busy nonstop.

Re: Baylor vs TWU
I am a student at Baylor, and let me tell you, first off, Baylor does not have a fast track program and even if they did I would still recommend TWU. I chose Baylor when I got in over TWU b/c I believed the extra tuition would be worthwhile as far as education quality went. Baylor is a much prettier school with newer equipment etc... However, the school is a bunch of badly organized BS with a pretty exterior. I am not saying it is absolutely horrible, but I am saying that if you are going to have to put up with a bunch of b.s. regardless, make sure you are paying less for it at least.
I feel at this juncture as though I have been ripped off, I pay about $12 grand a semester for my education, and what I am getting is nowhere near comparable to that price tag. I could go into more detail for you if you wish, but right now I actually need to get back to studying for my finals. Seriously, I'm not promising TWU is all roses, but again, neither is Baylor, so at least pay less. I'd switch programs, but when a few classmates and I checked into it we found that it would significantly delay our graduation since a lot of our classes don't transfer between programs. Good luck!

TWU has a nice pretty BRAND NEW campus in Houston. Plus you can't beat med center clinicals and about 2-3K per semester. TWU is a disorganized mess, too, but I've never heard of a smooth nursing program.

Re: Baylor vs TWU
Thank you for your input. It really helps. Something in my gut was telling me TWU, but everyone was like oh, Baylor, you should go there. However, they don't have to pay for the tuition. Thanks so much and good luck to you.
