Austin Seton RN residency questions

by Lilichk

Hello,

I have a few questions regarding the RN residency with Seton Hospitals. Has anyone done them, applied, worked there? I am graduating in May of '09 in Philadelphia and my family is relocating to Austin area. This seems to be something that I am very intreasted in, however, I don't know much about it. If some one can give me a detail idea of what they do, pay, application process, and so forth that would be great. I'm guessing I should be applying now.

Thank you

I am starting the program next week. If you just type in Seton or Versant into the search bar here, you'll find a bunch of recent posts about it that will answer a lot of your questions!

What program are you graduating from in Philly? I moved from Philly to Austin and I know another girl who did the same. We are all in the Versant program that is just about to end. The pay is a lot less compared to what you would make in Philly but it's not as expensive here since it's not a big city. What I am told is people want to work here so they don't have to pay as much. I can't complain b/c the weather is so much better and the people are really friendly.

I am graduating from Gwynedd Mercy...When you say the pay is a lot less, what do you consider less. Can you elaborate a little more. If I will be moving with my family, which includes a 3 year old and a newborn...so I really have to calculate the pay salary versus spendings. I have an aproximate estimate for how much apartments are where we want to live, but I would like to know what kind of salary, to balance out expenses. If you don't want to post here, can you please send me a private message. Also, how is the program? Has it benefitted you as a nurse? When did you apply and how was the application process? It would be so nice to get these answers. I'm looking forward to the warmer weather and the friendly people...It snowed today and is freezing here in Philly. I hate it.

As a new grad, you can expect a starting salary of 21.46/hr, but you will quickly be bumped up after passing your boards and becoming an RN. There are frequent opportunities for raises in Seton and the shift differentials are pretty good actually. The pay fine compared to the cost of living in Austin, especially after you've been there a little while and are making more than what you started with. Austin is not nearly as expensive as some places I've been, so it works well for us.

PS- my husband is a real estate agent with the best real estate team in Austin, so if you are looking for the bargains in town, he's an awesome person to work with.
