Thank you for the recommendation! I do hope we meet at Eastview. I sent an email to the adn program email about waitlists and whatnot and still have not heard back so we will see....

I am in the Pharmacology class right now at Eastview with ***** *****. I really recommend taking it with her. She is an RN and teaches you what nurses need to know about meds. Just took our first lecture test this past wednesday and I got a 96. It was 100 questions on a scantron. Pretty easy, and she give you a good review to go by. If you do take it with her, DONT buy the textbook, you wont need it at all. The hardest part for me right now is the dosage calculations. I am taking my first dose exam tomorrow at Cypress. Ayyyy!

Wow thank you! How do you think it compares to the other sciences? Would it be too hard to take with anatomy or physiology?

You have to take Anatomy First. Then Microbiology, Then Physiology, Then Pharmacology

***** ********, ACC nursing advisor, and the ACC biology dept recommend the above sequence and told me students should only consider taking Physiology and Pharmacology the same semester.

I'm planning on 11 weeks of Anatomy this summer with an early 6 week class in English Composition and a late 6 week class in Drama. I can drop the two "basket weaving" classes if they start to impact Anatomy.

I want to be a nurse so much and all these pre-requisites seem to take so long.

I'm doing "nursing care" for my Siamese cat, Leilani, who has a cold, sneezes, and has and runny eyes. Will that count as a clinical or get me into nurses training any sooner?

I know how you feel Bo.

I think once you take anatomy you can take them in any order you wish, but that is generally the best way. I really want to apply for Fall 2010 program and am trying to figure out how to take the last four classes in two semesters.... :\

I know that you can take a test and get the pre-req of Anatomy taken off for Pharm. but not sure how hard the test is.... would really like to take anatomy and pharm. this summer and micro and physiology in the fall....

Sure wish ACC would add an option of applying during your last semester of pre-req's.....

You can take them in any order after anatomy. I took anatomy during the summer; physiology and pharm in the fall, and micro last in the spring. I had all of my coreqs done except for humanities and nursing skills at the time of my application, but they were completed last fall before I started nursing school. If you have any specific questions let me know.

Default Re: Austin Community College (ACC) Cheap Nursing Books
For those who has access to a Half Price Bookstore be sure and check out their nursing section.

The one at Anderson Mill Road and 183 has some incredible buys on their outside books and pretty good prices on the inside books.

For example: Vander's Human Physiology $30, Stedman's Medical Dictionary $12.98, Fundamentals of Nursing (Caring and Clinical Judgment) $1--one buck!,Maternity Nursing Lowdermilk, Perry, Bobak $1-one buck!

They go from feast to famine. Last few weeks their haven't been any nursing books in the $1 section and one week they had eleven nursing books all for under $5

Thanks Bo! The one on Lamar had a brand new Anatomy coloring book for about $4. I didn't snatch it but I think I might try and see if it's still there on Monday....

Thanks anyway--all ready have it.

Did you see my post that there is a 40% drop out rate after the first semester of nursing classes? That is terrible with all the effort it takes to enroll, take all the pre-reqs and then drop all. What a waste of time and money for 40% of the folks who want to be nurses.

I've gotta find out why so I'm not in the 40% group.

Wow, 40% is not good..... that is such a huge chunk of people! Where did you find this information? I have not had much luck emailing the department. They are nice, but basically just tell me to read the website...

I am actually starting to think that doing the LVN program and then bridging to RN might be a better route for me.... I don't want to wait until Spring 2011 to (maybe with the waiting lists or whatever) start a program. I don't think I'll be able get the last four prereqs done this year =\. I think I am going to attend the LVN info session tomorrow... we'll see though. I am just desperate to be in nursing school of anykind!!
