applying to lone star colleges for fall 09

I actually liked all my teachers. They did their job well. Did I like the program???? No, not really, but I don't think that was a reflection of the teaching staff. We started off with 48 and graduated 12 of the original 48. It is tough, but with the right attitude and some determination, it can be done!

I am planing to apply this fall to ADN program which starts from december i guess.

I am new to this website and wanted to meet others who are applying to the Lonestar Fall '09 RN program. I just took my HESI (it was fairly easy) and my score came out to be 11.7448. I am applying to Cy-Fair as my first pick and hopefully i'll get in seeing that it is close to my house! I hear some of you guys are saying that Cy-Fair is not a good choice? That makes me scared! I've been taking all my classes there and so far all of my teachers for my pre-reqs are nice and reasonable. Do you know what the cut of score was? I'm sure many people have around the same score as me such as flower 12 above me, so that makes me nervous! Well i hope to get to know some of you guys and good luck to everyone!!

Hi All... I am new to this site and wanted to get some information regarding the Hesi test. I bought the Hesi study guide the other day and so far so good,, its seems easy, but is it --as easy at it seems.. I am not really worried about the math portion of the exam, but the reading is whats going to determine my acceptance or not because they divide the score by 25. I am currently at 8 points, so the reading is my last hope... Can anyone give me a few pointers or what I should really focus on in the reading section... HELP.. I am shaking in my boots.

I am in the same situation as you. I plan on taking the HESI this Saturday. I've done some searching about the test and people say the math is basic-about an 8th grade level. As far as the reading I did read one post that stated that the reading was a little harder than the study guide suggest. They recommended using SAT, ACT, THEA, etc. reading passages to prepare. I've been using an SAT critical reading book and I feel it has helped in my reading comprehension skills. I'm not really sure on what to expect though. I'm really nervous as well. I want to do well on the reading portion to get as close to 12 points as possible so I won't have any worries about being accepted.

Hi guys! I'm not applying for fall '09, but I do plan to apply to Cy Fair for next spring. I'm going to the info session on Wednesday, but it's always nice to hear from other students too. My biggie, what is about the program that so many people don't like? I've heard it's really tough, is that it?

On the point breakdown, I know that you gets points based on how many of the non-nursing "co-reqs" you have taken. Does anyone know the breakdown on that particular section? As of this moment, I'm taking A&P II and Lifespan over the summer, which will just leave me with Micro in the fall. I would really like to spend some time with my family this summer though, and I'm thinking of just taking Lifespan in the fall. I know the one class left won't hurt me, but will two?

Last one (I promise!), what sections are covered on the HESI? I know some schools require different sections, so I want to make sure that I'm preparing for the correct sections.

I didn't think the study guide was all that helpful.

The entrance HESI basically tests your reading comprehension skills. There is a math portion but they don't take that into consideration for your points.

I didn't do well the first time. What helped me improve my test score was retaking English 1301. Even though I tested out of English years ago, I found that 1301 was helpful because it focuses on improving your reading comprehension skills. Even though I've always been an avid reader and have always had excellent grades, that little bump in my skills made the difference as far as my HESI score was concerned.

Sorry it took so long my points are 11.1 no i havn't turned n my application im just being lazy but i know soon as i turn it in im going to start counting the days. I talk to the lnursing lady about a month ago and she said the cut off at north harris is normally at 11 so im praying.

I took the HESI test a couple weeks ago and scored great on both parts. For Lonestar College they only test you on 2 parts - Reading Comprehension & Math. For me, the math was much harder so I had to study more on that portion of the test. It is basic math, but there are conversions...so KNOW YOUR CONVERSIONS! Other than than..really easy. I used the HESI exam study guide which really helped me. I didn't study as much for the reading comprehension part, so I just quickly ran through the study guide passages and answered the questions quickly. The reading on the exam is VERY easy. The passages are short, and questions were right in the paragraphs.
Hope that helps...but I would recommend buying the study guide and taking the practice tests in the back of the book. It seemed like many similar questions were on the test.

It is also good to have A's in all 3 classes - English 1301, Psych - 1301 and A&P 1 or 2.

You also get points for how many credits you have..so it is good to have completed majority of them prior to turning in a nursing application.

By the way...does anyone know what the cutoff for Cy-fair is?
