I graduated from Cy Fair, and we HAD to take our Pharm class online...we were not given any other option. Also, we were not allowed to take Pharm until we were actually accepted into the nursing program, and were in our second semester of nursing school.

I am taking PHARM online through Kingwood this semester - The professors are Loftin and Seaback - I am loving it so far - I highly recommend taking it through Kingwood and online if you are disciplined enough. What are your points goo123?? Have you submitted your application yet?

The blocked curriculm is actually kind of nice. We learn all our skills in the first semester in lab, then after that, we are free to do all skills for the rest of the program. Also, at cy fair, we DO NOT go to nursing homes, and that was a huge relief for most of us in the program.

Yes, I am in the Kingwood program. I like it, it isn't perfect but I didn't expect it to be. The staff is very student oriented, they want you to do well and pass. The facilities are nice and the program is very do-able. It is by no means impossible. I think you will find the culture and general atmosphere of each program is a bit different in the Lonestar system, but in the end they will all teach you what you need to know to pass the NCLEX.

sbyramRN: i'm pretty sure all the programs allow you to take pharm before being accepted now, and as for it being i just felt like I didn't leave w/ as much knowledge as I could have if I had gone to a classroom situation, but to each their own i guess i'm just a more hands on learner, i think the online class lacked the back and forth question/answer atmosphere that a classroom has.

Maybe so. Pharm just seemed like pure memorization to me until I was actually able to apply what was learned in the clinical setting. I think having some clinical experience prior to taking pharm really helps, because you are actually able to apply what you are learning to situations you see/ or have seen in the hospitals. Also, Pharm is pretty difficult to grasp if you have no knowledge of basic Med Surg. We took Pharm after our first semester of Med Surg, so that helped out A LOT. So maybe that is why online pharm was not a big deal.

I wish they would start the online ADN program again. I guess the 1st class didn't turn out so well.

sbyramRN,
It is good to know that you graduated from nursing program. If you don't mind I wanted to ask you about these rumors about Cyfair nursing instructors being too strict and unfriendly with their nursing students. Is it realy true? Thanks for your input.
