Re: applying to lone star colleges for fall 09
I was reading thru you're responses and I had to comment - It feels like just yesterday I was in ya'lls shoes - now I'm finishing my first year of Nursing School! I wanted to wish everyone luck on getting in. You are in for the ride of your life - The next two (and a half) years will be consumed with studying or thinking about studying LOL - I have a few tips for everyone -
Make sure you get your CPR certification ASAP - and make sure it's the correct one. You will have an orientation and at that time the people with all their paperwork and requirements (shots, cpr) can go register. If you don't have something you will get last pick for clinicals.
DONT buy your books at the bookstore - you can find them for wayyyy cheaper on half. com or amazon - look them up by the ISBN numbers on the booklist you recieve at orientation.
Don't buy a two hundred dollar stethscope - you don't need it. I have the littman lightweight for $50 and it rocks.
Don't stress this summer - I know it's exciting but it will really be your last time to relax in awhile.
Buy LOTS of notecards, highlighters, black pens, a watch with military time, and comfortable shoes! (all white)
If you can afford a PDA it's worth it - you can download your drug guide on it - it's invaluable in clinicals.
Don't get caught up in the drama - I feel like I'm back in highschool sometimes.
Be happy with B's or even C's in nursing school - either way if you pass NCLEX that's all that matters!
That's all I have right now - message me if you have any questions for me.
