Anyone Hating what IKE has done to our schedules?

SO! for all us nursing students here in the Houston/galveston area, are we enjoying these few WEEKS off? I don't know about you guys, but I'm freaking out! This is my first semester at Lone Star-North Harris, and there's still no light! Tomball doesn't have light either so we're stuck without lectures, clinicals, labs, nada! Of course our instructors are making new Plans for us but still I HATE THIS!!!
I can't even imagine those of you who are going to UTMB! and those in the Medical Center! How is it looking there?
LET OUT YOUR FRUSTRATIONS!!!

oh yes, I understand you. I'm on the program with you @ north harris and know the frustration. Hope the instructors come out with a plan that will benefit all of us.

Yup, I'm completely freaking out about it!!! I'm in my 3rd semester of NS and we've missed our second quiz, and the first two exams. On top of that, we've missed 3 of our 5 clinical days so far. Of course the rumors abound about what they're going to have us do to make it up. Our rotations are only 8 weeks long and with tests, reading, care plans, process papers, presentations, and drug cards to do, I'm just not sure how we'll get it all done. I'm trying to read while I can during the day, cause I know I'll have to pay the piper soon and it won't be pretty (it never is in our program!)

And this is day 9 without power. I'm trying to hang on to my sanity, but its tough I tell you!!!!

I know! I've really tried to study this past week at home, but with 3 little ones WITH NO SCHOOL OR DAYCARE! it's REALLY hard! I've barely got through what we were supposed to study last week! So I really need to catch up with my readings! We've already missed our first week of clinicals and what worries me is how are we going to make this up? Supposedly we need a certain amount of "hours" of clinical time to sit for NClex! So......(taking a deep breath) I hope things work out!

Just wanted to you all a "pat on the back". You are very strong to have gone through what you all just went through and are still trying to focus on your study. I am praying that everything can get back to normal for you all ASAP.

Thanks Stacy! Its really trying these days. This is day 10 without power---I feel almost like Laura Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie reading by candlelight.

Our school is still without power as well. We're scheduled to go back Thurs tentatively--thats if you believe the power restoration forecasts. Our instructor made calls to everyone and mentioned that they would be discussing exactly how we're going to make up everything when we return. I wish she would have just told us---the worrying and waiting is worse than just knowing and dealing with it. Sigh..........

Thumbs up Re: Anyone Hating what IKE has done to our schedules?
Yes, Ike has certainly caused all the nursing students in the Houston area a pain in the neck. I am in 3rd semester at Lee College in Baytown, we are out until Thursday - maybe. We were told, you have your reading schedule so keep reading and studying, you know your exam schedule so be ready for the exam you missed when you come back. We too have also missed 2 of our 4 clinicals - don't know what they will do about that.

I have been reading, doing my assignments, and studying for exams. Don't know much else to do.

Good luck to all - I know it's been hard but keep your chin up - use your critical thinking and emergency thinking to get you through - took too much to get where we are to not keep going forward!!

Keep on plugging away...just wait until you are done with school and on the other side of the coin, and are getting no time off. Being locked in the hospital for 4 days with no air conditioning and sleeping on the floor....but heck at least I got paid!

Of course the plans for all students affected by this storm is to assist you in your learning needs. As long as you keep up the readings as expected, you too will be successful. Do not fret nurses are use to changes and can roll with the punches. Keep the eye on the prize....

Positive thinking is all you need. Study when the little ones are in bed and it is quiet. It also the best time to relax and focus on the immediate need of studying. Nurses are use to disruption in organization and all will be back on track. My advise is worrying keeps you unfocused on the important things. So focus on the readings and assignments. Things will work out.
