2 Sciences classes at Once.....

Hi All,
I am currently taking my pre req. for the TCC Nursing program. From everyone experience, would you suggest taking A & P I and Microbiology during the same semester?

I know Microbiology is learning about the cells, and A & P I is more about the body itself.

What do you suggest?

Also, do anyone suggest taking A & P II during the winter mester?

I am curious and I need some advice.

Thank you,
Soon2B RN!

I love science and I'd take them both at the same time! I made an A in both classes and if you have the time to study the material and learn what your professor tests on (be it lecture, handouts or text) so you are prepared. [=

I took A&P II and Micro together and made an A in A&P II and a B in Micro ( I was 2 points away from the A). It is doable.

You actually have it backwards. A&P I you learn about the cells, A&P II
you'll start learning more about bones, organs, etc.

Microbiology is the study if very small living things called microorganisms.
You learn about germs, protozoans, bacteria, virology, mycology, parasitology. You learn about the important men of microbiogly, the microscope, all sorts of fun stuff.
Also , how to identify these germs under a microscope. Ooh, I hated
that part. During lab test, they put this stuff under a microscope and
you have to identify it. Yeah right, like we'll use this in nursing.

And most importantly, how to wash your hands!! LOL

Once again, my opinion, I think you should take one science per semester, this is also what TCC nursing program recommends. However, I don't know what kind of student you are. You may be smart as a whip and can do it
with no problem.

TCC nursing also looks at how many 'Ws' are on a person's transcript, so you want to be very careful about dropping classes. Too many do not look good. If you make a C, you'll have to retake the course, so you're best off to NOT be in a hurry and do it right.

My suggestions, take A&P I in a regular full semester with lifespan and if you do okay, then maybe you can consider taking the rest of the two sciences together.

Only my suggestions. I've seen too many people get in a hurry because
they need their degree 'yesterday' and they overload themselves or they
don't give themselves enough time. They end up having to repeat a course due to being overloaded. Start small, then work up.

Always always research your soon to be teachers by asking other students.
A good or bad teacher can either make you or break you. I always made sure
I signed up for a good teacher. There is one lady that teaches A&P at TCC
south campus that you absolutely want to stay away from, she's hard and
a good portion of the grade is on pop quizzes. I had to drop her and wait
another whole semester. She was crap!! After that experience, I researched my teachers bigtime!!!

@ britney_RN-Can you tell me the name of the lady to stay away from, and who did you end up taking for AP1?

I took Barton at the South Campus and absolutely thought he was the
bomb. Some say he is hard, but the class is what's hard. To me, he
makes it understandable, esp when learning about cells.

I think the teacher I'm thinking about is Ms Scott. She's kind of short and older. There are a few people that liked her, but NOT ME! I didn't like her pop quizzes in lab and didn't like her as a teacher period. Barton threw some extra points out there, which is what helped me make an A.

I learned the hard way myself to start researching my teachers before I register for the class. I had a horrible teacher for Chemistry, my lab teacher was great; only if I had him for lecture also. I learned to have the same lecture and lab teacher. I was used to going to school online;therefore, I did not understand the importance of selecting the same teacher for lecture and lab. Some of the professors teaching style was miles apart, I had to learn to adapt to both styles of teaching. I go to ratemyprofessor.com to rate each and every professor, before I register for a course.
