  1. hey nikki,
i am also trying to get into the spring 2011 semester. i also have all my prerequisites done except a&p 1/2 and micro. i am too taking a&p 1 this semester and hoping to take a&p 2 and micro over the summer semester. i have a friend who was able to do this and she informed me as long as you study every opportunity you get it’s not any more or less difficult than taking it during the summer or fall. best of luck to both of us
  2. to all of you ladies and maybe gentlemen that are familiar with STCC in memphis...I have a question, i've been going to stcc and i've done really good in all my prequesites, ellectives, etc. I'm actually done with all of them and ready to take my pre-admission test and apply for the program, however years ago i was in a completelly different major in stcc as well (architectural tech), but i was fresh out of high school, didn't care, fooled around and got really bad grades ...all of those courses in which i got bad grades on have nothing to do with nursing, but of course they are affecting my overall GPA...so what i've wondered for the longest is if that will hurt my chances of getting accepted into the nursing program...???
I've spoken to a couple of counselors and they told me that i will probably not hurt my chances since they are not nursing related, that what weights the most are A&P I/II and micro and your pre-adm exam, it feels however that those counselors just wanna get you out of their offices STAT!! lol...
Anyway, any personal experiences out there with something similar to what's happening to me?
    Thanks for any replies....
  3. You are ranked solely by your admission index score. As long as you meet the minimum requirements and your admission score is in the top 60, you get in. I had the minimum GPA required, A's in Micro, A&P 1&2, and a 150 on the NLN. I got in.

I did the same thing a couple of times actually. I went first for Electrical Engineering Technology and quit and then went back and tried Computer Engineering and I made a couple of really bad grades. I did re-take one class a few years later and made a better grade which wiped out the bad grade; however I still have one bad grade on my transcript pulling my overall gpa down. I made A's in A&P I, II and Micro and scored 124 on the NLN and I start the program this week. A's in A & P and Micro will pull up your gpa. The science courses are the most important for your admission index score. Good Luck and I hope this helped.
  5. Okay gang, we are there, It has begun. And My excitement has faded to bewilderment. I have no idea what is going on! Im so lost!
  6. @jennshort568 i was wondering how things were going for you guys. what's going on that you are bewildered?? definitely keep the faith. you have come a long way!! best of luck to you.
  7. Oh I am confused about where to look on the website for this that and the other. I am concerned about what is due when...The information you get those first few days is a lot. I think I am getting a better handle on it already. If I can just get my APA formatting down I will be in business.

While I am thinking about it, in D & S there are days were it says we are 'off-ground.' Those days we do not come to class at all right? We just work from home?
  8. I just started the Spring 2010 semester. I was able to take A&P 2 and Micro over the summer. A&P2 was the short first summer term (class everyday for 5 weeks) and Micro was the entire summer (both terms 3x/week). It wasn't easy. I don't work and it was intense those first 5 weeks with both classes going on. I did make an A in both. It's worth it to try so you can start next Spring.

As far as admission - they only count your GPA for classes the past 5 years. So if you took it in the past 5 years, it counts in your GPA whether it's pertinent to nursing or not.

For admission, I had a 4.0 GPA, A's in A&P 1/2 and Micro, and a 159 on the NLN exam. I thought the test was pretty easy.

i am wondering just how the semesters work in the actual nursing program. according to the curriculum, the 1st semester there is dosages and solutions, foundations of nursing and the foundations of nursing clinical. are there any other classes that you are taking along with those? i'm just curious as to how what your schedules look like.
  10. @ nikkih901

Those are the only three classes that I'm taking. - Dosage, Foundations and Clinical. You have to pass all three before you can move on. If you pass Foundations and not Dosages, you can't move on to the next semester - Adult Health I until you retake Dosages.

My schedule is M/Tu 7pm to 9pm Foundations, Th 7pm to 9pm Dosages (hybrid) and Saturday 6a until 3pm (or 8am to 5p) for Clinical. Dosages is a hybrid course, so some weeks you only have to do assignments at home and not come to class. Clinical is 6 weeks on campus starting at 8am for learning skills and then the last 7 weeks are at the hospital starting at 6am.

I know you can take other classes towards your degree each semester like math or english or humanities, but not any other nursing classes. Frankly, I wouldn't try to take anything else but those nursing classes. I don't work, but I have two small children (4 and 2), I'm sending them to daycare some days so I can study. It's a lot of work. I've probably studied about 45 hours in the past week.
