I'm in west TN too!!! Up here in Martin. I don't graduate until May 2005 :( So glad to find others from Tenn on here!!! Hi all!!! :)

I go to UT Martin so I'm not sure on Southwest's, but I'd be happy to share the information that I have about my school.

How was the NLN exam?

It wasn't bad at all, it mainly asked reading comprehension, some A&P, and maybe some math questions.

How long did it take for you to get in the program?

I got in on my first try. I am currently a junior in the program, just got done with the fall semester and start back January 12th for the spring semester.

What was your GPA?

My GPA before entering the program was a 3.46 I think. They also look at your grades in specific science courses (A&P, micro, chem, etc) so its a plus if you have a B or higher in them.

What kind of grades were you making before you got into the program?

Before nursing I got all As and Bs. It was a split about 50/50 of each. Now in the nursing program I get mostly Cs with the occasional B. Testing is completely different in nursing and some of it is impossible to study for (to me anyways). There are alot of What is the best response to a patient? type questions that you aren't taught and merely have to use your best judgement. Unlike most tests where there are 3 wrong and 1 right answer. It's usually 1 wrong and 3 right answers with 1 of the right answers being better than the other 2.

If you have any questions let me know. If you are thinking of going to UTM they usually do their NLN in February if I'm not mistaken to be accepted for the program in the fall. There is no wait list or anything and they only accept 1 class in the fall of roughly 60 people. There are certain classes that you must have done before you get in the program, but I recommend getting all your prereqs done before you get in. During the first semester of nursing school they want you to take A&P 2 as well, which at UTM is a very difficult class in my opinion.

LPN student in Paris, Med surg is next and it's rough!
