Hi! I'm applying to the program as well! Does anyone know if we need a certain amount of recommendation letters?

Hey y'all! I'm a current Nurse Resident at Vandy, so hopefully I can help answer some questions you might have!
You'll need to fill out the prelim application and will then be emailed the full "packet," which will give instructions on your letter of intent/resume/experience documentation/references/etc... You'll need to send the reference link to 2 clinical faculty members, and then they ask you to put in 2 backup people to be contact acted only if either of the first two don't complete it for whatever reason. Everything is submitted via the packet links, so you don't have to source anything on your own to upload except LOI/resume and an official transcript.

Thanks for your help! So for the prelim application, do you just access that with the job code they have on the website? If I'm on the right page, they have an area for a cover letter and references and stuff, but should I wait to attach those until they send the packet?

You're welcome! I believe you have to upload something for each spot on the prelim, which is just through the basic job posting. But they don't look at anything you upload there, so it can literally be just plain documents. They won't take anything into considering until it's in the packet. Just put enough down to get it submitted, and then go from there!

I'm thinking of applying from out of state to be closer to family.
Newbie nurse - how is the nurse residency program? Is it what you expected? any surprises? What area are you in?

So far the residency has been amazing. Vanderbilt is an incredible organization to work for, and this entire process has been so seamless. You can tell they really have their ducks in a row, because though extremely busy, the orientation phase runs like a well oiled machine. The culture at the hospital is super welcoming to the new residents, and they really go out of their way to make you feel valued and a part of the team from day one. I'm in the Peds track, and after the first few days of general orientation, the adults and peds tracks split off so that you get more individualized attention/education. I don't think there have really been any surprises so far, but I went into with a really open mind, and I had zero ideas about what to expect! Been trying to just take it all in as it comes, and I'm genuinely so thrilled to have the opportunity to start my career with Vanderbilt.

Thanks so much for your detailed response. I am happy to hear of a program that is well organized and welcoming. I plan to apply - pray - and see what happens. All the best in your nursing career.

I applied for the Pediatric ED and just wanted to say hi! Getting kind of anxious about hearing back!

I'll be interviewing for a SICU position. What are interviews like? Any advice? For those in ICU positions at Vandy, how do you like it?

Congrats on the interview for the SICU! I just found out I got an interview for the Pediatric ED...super excited! I've heard that they do mostly behavioral interviewing.

Congrats all! I was invited for Cardiology dept interview. Although it will be super expensive - I hope to be able to travel to Nashville for the interview. Skype is an option but I think it is a disadvantage - especially since I won't be able to see the unit.
