Tcat Ripley lpn

U.S.A. Tennessee

I'm trying to get into one of the Tcat lpn programs in the west tn area. I took the compass test about a week ago in Jackson and pass.I have applied to the Ripley school because they are the only school that has a new class starting in January 2016 to my knowledge, and that's close to me. If im not accepted in Tcat Ripley, I do plan on applying for all the other Tcat schools that are with in a 30 mile radius of Jackson. Just hoping and praying that I am accepted!!

No Im in Jackson. Why did u have to drop? Was it hard for you to get in at that time?

No listening to people but now I wish didn't . But I'm a get in the program and stay!how far are you gonna have to ride if accepted into the program ?

I'll be commuting about 50 miles one way. I think the Ripley campus is accepting test scores until Nov, 11and applications til Nov, 20!!

What were your test scores

96 in reading 68 in math

96 in reading 68 in math

I had An 85 and 83 In reading

Your scores were really strong!! Do you know if they are still good because I think scores only stand for 2 years!!

Yes, I was told that I had to have 3 letters of recommendation & last I heard from the school, an interview would be apart of the process. However, I heard that before they changed their process.

I know that the Whiteville location only goes by your test scores. They don't care if you currently work in the healthcare field and they don't conduct an interview. All they care about is your scores. Only the top ranking 25 students make it at that particular location.

I think the new process that Ripley is doing is the exact same process that Covington is already practicing. After you pass the compass at Covington, they give you a nursing packet that you have to complete along with all the required documents and you have to turn it back into the school by a certain time.

Covington told me a while back that everyone who passes the compass exam doesn't always fill out and return their nursing packet and others who do complete their nursing packet don't always attend orientation which is mandatory. I think the reason that process works so well for Covington is because it weeds out the people who are less motivated than others to participate in the program. And it makes it easier on the school because they have less people to choose from because those who didn't complete the packet or attend orientation are usually ruled out. And even if by some exception they are not completely ruled out they are put at the bottom of the list. I think it's a pretty smart process myself. Students who don't complete the required steps rule themselves out without the school having to do it for them. Now Ripley is coverting to the same process.

Its going to take me a week or two before I have my packet completely finished because I can only use my supervisors as references so I have to mail my reference letters out to them so they can fill it out and then I have to pick up my transcripts from the college I previously attended. Then I will be able to send my packet in.

Your scores were very good so be encouraged to retest & apply. I'm currently working as a CNA myself but I work in home health because working in the hospitals and nursing homes is alot of hard work and it doesn't pay that much more (and sometimes it even pays less). I don't mind working but my back can't handle bathing, grooming, dressing and changing diapers for 20 patients a day.

That's part of the reason I want to get into nursing school. The pay is so much better and you're not having to work nearly as hard as the CNA(s). The other part of my reason being that I want to make changes in the healthcare field in order to improve the quality of care for the patients and improve the working conditions for CNA(s) & other Healthcare positions. Being overworked, underpaid and intentionally under staffed at any healthcare facility reduces the quality of care for any patient, among other things.

Did you know that OSHA conducted a study and wrote an article stating that CNA(s) have more health problems than construction workers or housekeepers? The reason is because the intense labor over a long period of time takes a toll on your health. These health care facilities under staffing their floors and overworking their employees so they can pocket more money is costing you & the patients health to decline. And that's not even my opinion, those are cold hard facts. So consider that as you look into nursing school for a second time.

Have you noticed that orientation is Nov,12 and the last date to turn in applications is Nov,20, and they have really been encouraging people to send tests scores from other tcat locations, and they say they are accepting act scores and a couple other types of test scores other then the compass!! I been seeing this on there facebook page!! Makes me wonder if they don't have enough applicants!!

I've already fax my complete application and my vaccination report, and I had my letter of recommendations completed and mail off yesterday, so I'm just anxiously waiting on the orientation!!!

No, I did not know that. They never talked to me about orientation being on the 12th of November. As a matter of fact, as soon as they changed the deadline on the compass scores, I haven't heard them once mention an upcoming date for orientation. The only other date I knew about was the deadline for the compass scores being turned into the school.

When the lady called me from Ripley to inform me that they were mailing me a nursing packet, she told me that I would be receiving information on the nursing program itself as well. But all I got was paperwork that had to be filled out and completed. I never got anything regarding the nursing program.

Did you receive any information through the mail about the nursing program? How did you find out that orientation was on the 12th of November? I haven't looked them up on Facebook. But I'm going to check it out. I didn't know they were encouraging people from other schools to apply. They swore up and down when I talked to them that the program was so competitive that's why they have to go through the trouble of selecting people. If it's so competitive why are they pumping people to apply? Motivation made me apply, not encouragement from the school, so I'm a little confused about what they're up to?
