question about jobs and schools in east tennessee

This question is for all the nurses in the tri-cities area, I'm currently going to ETSU but lately I have been seriously considering going into nursing. As far as I know the only school near Johnson City to get my associates degree as an R.N is the partnership North East State, has with Walters State. I was surprised their are no more programs in my area. I was also considering starting out at Tennessee Tech. School, in Elizabethton for the LPN program, though I hear it is equally hard to get into. I was wanting to hear all opinions on both these schools. I would love to work in Labor and Delivery and was also wondering if LPNs are used at all anymore in postpartum care or in Labor and Delivery in our area. In help or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Why not continue at ETSU & earn your BSN? After all, you're already there & you wouldn't have to transition to another college that may or may not accept all of your credits.

another good school is Milligan College although it is expensive (7500/sem) but it is a wonderful program and to me it is well worth the money. its also not as hard to get in as etsu. if money is not soo big of an issue, u may want to consider it

My hospital in Kingsport has a couple of LPN'S in L&D I'm pretty sure. They have also payed for tuition for several people to take the LPN class. Check with someone at one of the MSHA hospitals in either city, they are also doing CNA classes, you could let them put you through it and then the LPN classes while working as a CNA. You are obligated to work for them a certain amount of time but heck we only have two hospital systems anyway :)

Most of the hospitals in this area use LPNs in L&D as scrubs for C-sections and for postpartum care.

One good thing about the LPN program is that you are done in one year and then you can get your hospital employer to pay for you to get your RN ;)
