New grad looking for a place to work

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hello all,

I am thinking of relocating to east TN and had a few hospitals in mind. I am interested in working on a medical/surgical floor and am looking into the Johnson city medical center, Blount Memorial, Covenant health systems etc.

My main question is which hospital in the east TN area (including knoxville) do you feel has the best nurse/patient ratio.. best staffing.. generally best place to work as a new grad..

Since I am not from the area, I would like some honest opinions about the working conditions. The only information I have on these places so far are from the recruiters..

Thanks in advance for any replies to this message!

I think that Covenant would be your best bet- they pay a little better than most of the other hospitals in the Knoxville area and they have the best benefits. Also, since they have hospitals and other treatment facilities all over the city, they can be really flexible with scheduling. If you plan on continuing school, UT Medical Center and Blount Memorial probably have then best education/reimbursement programs. Both Blount (in Maryville) and Johnson City have a really 'small town' feel- I used to work at Blount Memorial and loved it there, it was really small and personal, but they weren't all about cutting edge technology. And- the majority of the staff there was born and raised out in Maryville, so if your are like me (I'm from Memphis) it can be kind of weird and alienating at first, but after a few months, you're family.

Thank you so much!! What wonderful advice! I very much appreciate your feedback!!!

I am from Johnson City, my sis works at the medical center there as a Xray tech. JCMC is a trauma 1 center, excellent cardiac hospital. Population is around 55-60,000. It is a small town but lots to do. Cost of living is great. Less that a mile from ETSU. Best of luck wherever you go!!!
