Calling ALL Southwest Tennessee Community College Spring 2011 Hopefuls!!!

U.S.A. Tennessee

Hi everyone. Now that the official October 15th deadline for submitting the application packet has passed, is anyone sitting on pins and needles like me?? I just learned that they would contact us via phone if we are accepted.

Does anyone know when they will start calling the people who are accepted? I tried asking the ever so pleasant lady  that answers the phone in the Nursing department and she didn't have answers to any of my questions.

To all of you that are waiting for that phone call, just as I, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

I received the email within 24 hours, but it went to my spam folder, if you haven't gotten it and it's not in your spam folder, try to call the customer service number on their site and I'm sure they can help you with it. They have been very polite and helpful about my issue.

Thanks. I have been checking my inbox and spam folder but still nothing. I tried to call but they are on Eastern time and were already closed. But thanks for your response. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't jumping the gun and worrying about nothing.

I dont' know if you have already registered for your class or not but I just registered for an AHA BLS class for Dec. 4. It's from 8-12 on the U of M campus. It's only $50 and they have a couple of seats left. I registered on the AHA website and just got my confirmation e-mail.

Is there anyway you could post this link as I'm interested in going to that class. I'm trying to find it now to no avail. bleh....

Hey Xandar. Here is the link for the class. There is one seat available.

@kay_bee & nikki Thanks for the links. I registered for that last spot. If either of you know, what was the cost of the course?

For anyone who has done the vaccinations and/or background/drug test, what was the cost?

I've not had insurance in well over a decade and I was wondering if the city conducted those vaccinations or maybe somewhere that's not to terribly expensive....

Maybe I should crack upon my admissions packet....... lol

Thanks

Because of the conflicting info about whether or not ARC certification is acceptable (mainly because the acceptance letter specifically said to use them), I went ahead and emailed the school about this to verify. To my surprise, she already replied this late. I was told that Methodist may not have accepted ARC then because it used to only be a 1 yr certification whereas AHA was for 2 yrs. Currently, ARC for professional rescuer is good for 2 yrs.

I was assured that for students, the 2 yr ARC professional rescuer course is fine for any hospital we do clinicals in. Phewww! :)

I wouldn't be so sure. I have the ARC professional rescuer and mine was good for two years and Methodist would not take it. I had to redo it for AHA. If you are taking a course, just do yourself a favor and get AHA to be on the safe side. I have both now, ARC and AHA both good for two years and will expire a few weeks after I graduate.

The health dept is probably going to be the least expensive. Most vax are about $50 to $80 each shot. The Hep B is a three shot series over 5 months, but just make sure you have the first one before class starts and you'll be okay.

The drug test is $40 I think. And they only take cash. I had to leave and go find an ATM in an unfamiliar part of town and go back.

The background check was easy, but keep the email they send you back. I think it was about $80??

I went to The Shot Nurse on Germantown Trinity Commons, they charged $25 for the TB skin test and $65 for the Hep B vaccine. I'm not all that familiar with Memphis so if there are cheaper places to go to, hopefully others on this site can point those out.

Xander, try not to wait too long to do your background check and shots.....I had a false flag come up on my background and now I have to get that taken off my record which will take some time, and my TB came back 1 mm away from negative so now I have to go get the chest x ray. Leaving all this to the last minute could turn out to be a hassle for you!

I was just curious... Was everyone able to get the schedules they wanted when they picked up their packet?

I was able to get my schedule the way I wanted it for the most part 7:20 to 9:20 Mon-Wed and then a Sun clinical. I would have preferred a Saturday clinical, but she said the 7:20 time slot came with a Sun clinical.

I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what we need to order for our scrubs/equipment - what do we have to have and what do we not HAVE to order from that form? Thanks!

Yes, I was able to get the 7:20pm classes Mon-Wed with the Saturday clinical. But I wondered if that was set in stone since the classes are not yet listed on my personal calandar for Spring 2011. I guess they will go over that plus the 50 million other questions all of us have during orientation.
