Calling ALL Southwest Tennessee Community College Spring 2011 Hopefuls!!!

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hi everyone. Now that the official October 15th deadline for submitting the application packet has passed, is anyone sitting on pins and needles like me?? I just learned that they would contact us via phone if we are accepted.

Does anyone know when they will start calling the people who are accepted? I tried asking the ever so pleasant lady  that answers the phone in the Nursing department and she didn't have answers to any of my questions.

To all of you that are waiting for that phone call, just as I, GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Xander-She said that she has homework but it's easy. And the tests are 100 questions with 25 of them spelling. She's made A's on all of them. So I think it's safe to say...NO PAPERS!!! yay. I hate them too.

fleur-di-lis-RN2b-Thanks so much for the info. I'll call a little later. Anyone interested in doing a group CPR class?

Hi Applejacks...I am totally interested. Just let me know what you find out. Thanks. Nikki

I've been following this thread and was also accepted into the 2011 spring program. Looking forward to meeting everyone! I would be interested in a group CPR class, I have some numbers for some instructors with AHA (2 year certification) that I haven't called yet if anyone is interested let me know.

hello szanin5....congrats to you!! i wanted to bring up that i keep hearing about a lady that does certifications in olive branch or southaven (i can't remember her exact location) and i heard that her prices are very reasonable. i must say at this point, minimal cost is very important to me because i am funding my college career all by myself. i have heard (i cannot confirm because i haven't verified this myself) that the cost for certification through the aha and the arc is at least $80. if i am incorrect, someone please correct me. but as i continue to look over all of the things that we will need, tuition included, this stuff is going to be very costly. it would be nice to pay a smaller amount for this certification. but again....i will do what i have to do since i was awarded this wonderful opportunity. btw...i have to wonder is anyone else still on cloud 9 like myself?? man o man talk about any early christmas present. i cannot wait to get started!!!

the place i did my cpr cert. with that i posted about earlier charged $75 (and she is aha certified, i forgot to add that). i believe she charges the same price whether you are in a group training or individual training. there was a thread somewhere in the tennesse threads about local cpr classes, and prices and locations, if that is helpful to you, but it seems everyone charges about the same rate.

i priced our book list through amazon, and they had all of them available except the med-surg book, and without that one book, the costs came out to around $425. besides tuition, books, uniform and the kit we need, are there any other expenses we will have?

the thrill for me has not worn off, i've been happily busy getting my background and drug testing done, hep b vaccine and tb skin test done, ordering shoes, etc....i am so excited (and a little scared to be honest, of the workload and tests coming my way!).

i am really looking forward to meeting everyone!

Specializes in ICU.

Make sure you get AHA certified. They don't tell you that, but Methodist won't let you do clinical with anything except AHA professional. I did ARC and had to redo it.

Hi fleur.....I know you said the trill has worn off but I have a story that can/will maybe make some of us forget what we are facing for a moment....and laugh. Background...I love clothes and shoes!!!!!!!! Everyone that knows me knows that I am a "fashionista". So my mom calls after she viewed the uniform website and the one thing that she lovedl....the white skirt!!!!!! My mom had the nerve to say that I can get some cute "nurse" boots to go with the skirt. Can someone please tell me what nurse boots are/what they look like? I've never in life heard of such. This is really puzzling/offending me at the same time. Someone please help!!!!

White skirt with white boots for a nursing uniform? haha I would love wearing that!

If you guys are still trying to get a group together, I am interested in the CPR class.

And oh yeah, the white boots and white skirt... I hope that's a trend that NEVER catches on! :D:clown:

If it's a white mini skirt with thigh high, patent leather white boots, I'll second that motion and be a huge supporter of the movement.

LOL @ Xander what you are envisioning sounds more candy striper-ish! ummmm NO! I think you are in a big disappointment once you see the skirt in question. The epitome of hot mess if I've ever seen one. Then it's is knee length.

Also, I just set up an appointment with the lady at Heart to Heart. She told me she does the full BLS (which includes everything we need and more) and the certification is good for 2 years. She said that she is also AHA certified. The appointment time is 2pm on 1-3-10. She did say she had more spaces available. Her price is 85.00. Her phone number is 901-628-3310 if anyone else is interested.

Don't try and suppress my dreams. It's all this old man has left. lol
