BSN Fall 2016.....UTHSC? LSON? Baptist? Union University?

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

I have a BA in criminology, and I'm seeking a second degree in nursing. In a few weeks, I plan to apply to every (Memphis area) school with an accelerated bsn program. Although I would be ecstatic to get accepted into any of these schools, UTHSC and LSON are my top choices. What about you?

.....searching for my future classmates😊

Hello! I'm currently a student at LSON, so your post title caught my eye. ;) Let me know if you have any questions about the program!

Thank you for responding, AutumnS., and congratulations!! Of course I have MANY questions. Are you in the accelerated program? 2.7 is the minimum GPA for acceptance; what GPA does one need to be competitive? Do you know the average GPA and Teas score of your class? Please tell me about your typical day. Do you work? Did you apply to any of the other schools I mentioned?

When you say uthsc are you referring to the one in San Antonio

Ooops...I missed the part about you being interested in the accelerated program! (I just got happy when I saw the Memphis Tiger :) ) I'm doing traditional BSN--so the average requirements might be a little different.

I know in general, the higher your GPA the better--I do know that I and all the people I know had GPAs well above 3.0, but again, I can't tell you exactly what would be "competitive". In the traditional BSN program, they have accepted around 140-150 each semester. I know the accelerated cohort is much, much smaller than that (maybe around 50 or less?) but I am not positive on the exact number.

I'll be honest and say the TEAS doesn't matter at all as long as you get the minimum score. A computer separates those who do pass with those who don't--I'm not sure if a human even looks at them much. The TEAS is just a standardized test a step harder than the ACT and the faculty knows that it is not a good indicator of how well a person does in nursing school. If you want to know, I made in the 80's on my TEAS the first time.

Again, I am not in the accelerated program, so my typical day is probably not like what yours will be. Sorry! I do not work, and it is they highly recommend you do not work while in nursing school. However, I know several people who do and are successful. Personally, I can't imagine having any time to work and be in the traditional 5-semester program (but again, many do).

I applied to all the schools you mentioned except for uthsc and was accepted into them as well. The biggest draw to Memphis was the fact it was cheapest, and had one of the higher NCLEX pass rates. I live in Memphis and so it was convenient. Also, we just opened a brand new building this past summer, so the LSON facilities are the newest! (and it's SUPER nice) :) Union is also good, but they are expensive. I also toured Baptist... I hear they are little more flexible scheduling wise, but again, they are more expensive, their facilities were not as near as nice, and not all their credits will transfer.

Again, I apologize that I cannot help you too much where I'm not in the accelerated program. :) If you're on FB, search for the "Loewenberg School of Nursing Students" page and post your questions there. There are members who are part of all the different programs (including accelerated) who could answer you more specifically.

Arthur_lee, I'm referring to Tennessee.

Thank you, AutumnS!!! I really appreciate your willingness to answer my questions. How long have you been in the program?

Hi future classmate!!! I am applying for uthsc Fall 2016.

Hello, taco08 Have you completed your prerequisites? Have you taken the teas? Are you going to the open house in November? Do you know about the webinar next week? Lol!!!!......I'm just so excited.

Im currently in microbiology at Southwest. I passed AP I/2 already. I took the teas test and made a 70 but i didnt study so im taking it again next week to achieve a higher score. I did sign up for the online webinar next week as well. Im excited as well...i think ive watched over 50 videos of what to expect while in nursing school..etc :nailbiting:

I'm taking AP 1 at SW. I've also signed up for the webinar, and I'll likely attend the open house. (....talk about being overzealous) Lol!

Hello,

I'm also applying for the fall of 2016. I just sent in my NursingCAS application but I was wondering who at UTHSC to send the TEAS scores to? An actual person? (when you order the TEAS to be sent to a school they want a first and last name, email...). Do you know by any chance??
