Does anyone know how to find out ifyou have been blackballed? :bluecry1:What kind of questions do you ask?

What do you mean by "blackballed"? By whom? When references are checked at most hospitals all they will give out is dates of employment, and if your eligible for rehire. You can call the hospital and they need to tell you if they are saying not eligible for rehire. You can request in writing what the information they are giving is. If they provide other information, it can related only to your nursing practice, not your personality. I use to be a Director of Nursing at a nursing home, and a nurse manager at a hospital, we were told to be very careful, as it could cost the facilities if we weren't. Same goes for interviews; lots of stuff you cannot ask applicants. Can you give any more information....

What a generic question

I found out that I was being blacklisted when the employers I was dealing with came right out and told me so. It is nice to think that only the bare minimum will be stated but that is not always the case. My attorney advised me that an individual can say what they want about you and get away with it under the guise of it being their "opinion". That "opinion" can be anything as long as it is "true". No one will give you specifics of what was said so that you can pursue legal action. One way to find out what is being said is to have someone call under the pretense of being a hiring manager. All they have to ask is "What kind of a worker was So and So?" and "Would you rehire So and So?". Everything the former employer wants to say about you can be addressed by answering those two questions.

Sorry for taking so long to reply and for the generic question, am unsure of exactly what I need to do.Several years ago I was fired from 1 of the 2 big healthcare systems in our area .I was doing a lab draw on a homeless pt whom I already knew was Hep C postive when the order came in for HIV bloodwork. The pt shared a rm with another pt and when I got thru with drawing the blood ; the pt grabbed my hand and scratched me with the cath.I said the first thing on my mind which was that the pt had better hope they were not postive,so the pt claimed I violated HIPPA and I was let go. They didn't contest me drawing unemployment but they advertize all the time for nurses and altho this was several years ago,I am never asked to come for a job interview. I have called the hosp system's HR and after many days have been told the postion has been filled. I am currently employed and love my job but looking for prn work due to my husband losing his job so that is the only reason I even ask.

Thanks for your help. Its embarrassing to even talk about and the only timeI've ever had a problem since I have been a nurse. My bosses there told me how much they hated it and that I was an excellant nurse and hard worker but it was time for state to come in and I think that played a big vpart in the decision.

The more employers following, and the longer period of time after a bad experience, will both cut down on the adverse effects. Suggest you go to one or more staffing agencies. Some of them are more lenient about hiring someone with a clear license when they are strapped for employees. If you get on with two or more of these and work for them for awhile, you can start listing references from them and your current job. After ten years has passed, you might consider leaving the bad listing off the application if the application does not request "all" employment.
