Where are the nursing jobs?

I just graduated in 12/2008 from a nursing school in PA. I am going to take my NCLEX exam late February, but few hospitals in this region (philadelphia) seem to be hiring. It may be that the economy has many "retired" nurses returning to work or it may be due to the number of nursing schools in this area, either way it seems the market is flooded. I am originally from TN (UT grad. - go Vols) and am considering the possibility of looking outside Pennsylvania and wondering what the job market is like in Tennessee. Are new grads having issues locating employment there as well?

Hi there!! I work for one of the Covenant Health facilities in Knoxville, and I believe that we are hiring new graduate nurses in many areas. Check out the web site at www.covenantcareers.com.

Good luck to you!

Nashville is LEAN right now. We are all struggling to find jobs (stupid economy!) We have a professor who is very knowledgeable about the job market nationally, and she tells us that things look tough all over. My hometown of Denver, CO is hiring big time though, if you're willing to go that far!

Well I'll tell you at the Wellmont system we are laying off nurses, CNA's, Enviromental, etc and cutting hours, benefits, etc.

I'm not happy about it as I graduate LPN school in August.
