Yeah thanks clearing that up about the pm! Unifrom is royal blue. No requirment on the shoe color (lol) I could see why u would think that, but no. They do not provide CPR & 1ST AID you have to get that else where (AHA, Red Cross). They do the TB test free of charge. Most LTC's will pay for your Hep-B and the $89 for you to take state exam once you're employeed with them. Throughout my class and everyone that I've spoken with (facilities, nurses, other CNA's) noone has mentioned the need to take a physical so I would hold off on that if I were you. Are you going on 10/31 to apply for the November class? If so let me know. NHC is great! So great in fact that it's hard to get a position there because no one ever leaves! Seriously! Sorry it took awhile for the reply.. I probably won't make it to 15 posts anytime soon!

Nope, I'll have to wait until January I can't afford the childcare for my kids! Three weeks = $900 which means not right now! We tried to think of everything we can, but can't swing it now. I really wanted to get started, WIA says they dont' do childcare anymore, and they don't cover CNA right now either. Also, there's another agency that is planning on having the cna class with phlebotomy included beginning early next year, so I'm keeping that in mind too. I do want to try to volunteer there, but no one will call me back!!!

Oh I'm sorry to hear that. But if this is what you want to do KEEP AT IT!!! I say this because it took 3 times before I got into the class. 1st time was because I was told about it 2 days after that Monday. 2nd time because the lady at the front desk neglected to tell me that the application time was only from 9am-11am. By there being only 14 spots by the 3rd time I was getting discouraged...but when I finally got ALL the correct dates and info I applied and was accepted. By the way what's WIA? Let me know about the class with phlebotomy! There's also going to be an additional 75 class hours that you can take (once you're certified) that will allow you to pass meds as a CNA! That program is not in place yet but is coming. A bill was passed to allow it.

I'm having a hard time getting hired here in Chattanooga. I got my CNA back in March, then moved here in May. I began applying for jobs in April and have only had 2 interviews. I've applied at Erlanger, Memorial, and Parkridge for 6 months and nada. There are so many job postings but I've only received a few calls from my applications. Childcare is an issue for me, I can only work daytime hours right now.

Do you know if NHC hires CNAs that don't go through their program?

You will be able to respond to pm's once you have made 15 posts. You may send a private message to a member by clicking the 'Send New Message' link in the private messaging section of your user control panel, or by clicking the 'Send a Private Message' icon that appears in a member's posts when you click on their username.

dee78...NHC does hire from outside but they don't usually have to. Also like I was saying before when people get hired there they stay for years so NHC doesn't have many openings. EXAMPLE--my class in Oct., 2 out of 14 got offered a position. Try Standifer Place and the Life Care facilities. There is an opening on the Chattanooga has jobs website, it's for weekends (private sitting position I think) and some PRN as well. Let me know if you find it. I"ve seen the postings for Memorial too have they called you?
