Its good to see they are continuing the program in this economy!!
No problem at all. I am graduating with a ADN degree. My GPA is 3.5. The only patient care I've done has been in clinical experience.

I am glad they are continuing the program despite the economy, but there have been some major cutbacks as stated in my previous post!

Thumbs up Re: Vandy Nurse Residency ?s
Hey there Kris and OUNurse, congrats! I got in to the program too, in the adult health track. (adult med was my 1st choice). OUNurse, I'm from Ohio too! What part are you from? When will you all be moving down, and will you be taking your nclex before you go or after? (we don't graduate until june 11th, so with paperwork turnaround time, i think i'm going to have to sit for my nclex in TN once the residency starts.) have you gotten any information on the TN BON requirements (fingerprinting, authorization to test, etc.) as far as the license and testing application process goes? Sorry for all the questions, i'm just really excited to get started

Sunshine-- I was an ADN student with a 3.3 GPA (although i do have lots of bachelor's credit from other schools prior to my major change), and i'm finishing up my second year of clinical rotations. we did 1 a week for the 1st 2 qtrs, then 2 days a week for the last 4... our preceptorship is only 56 hours, but we have had a lot of experience already. i never worked as a tech, but have an active nurse aide license. i was a little worried they would look down on me as an adn student, but i think what they really want to see is how committed you are to the field and to vandy as well. i explained to them in detail why i wanted to work there as opposed to somewhere else.... the application is very involved, and of course all interviews are nervewracking, but the process was well worth it, and the people i've met so far were so nice! good luck to you, and if you have any questions about the interview process, look over this thread again (because i asked the members about a million of them while i was applying!) or make a post and i'll try and answer as best i can.

Pill Re: Vandy Nurse Residency ?s
Hi Jones.ah! Congrats to you, as well!! I live in Columbus, near Hilliard. How about you?

I will probably be moving down at the end of June, as that is when my current lease is up. It's crazy to look for places to live in a city I know nothing about!!I graduated in March and just took NCLEX today (yikes!). I haven't looked too much into Tenn BON info yet, because I'm just stressing about whether I passed or not. As soon as I find out, I am going to look into that! I think it will be great and probably a lot easier for you to just take your boards there!

Are you excited to start? I can't wait!! I'm wondering when they're going to send out info packets...hoping it's sooner rather than later : )

Congrats to everyone that got in. I do have to say though, for any Tennessee graduates hoping to participate in the residency program...don't count on getting in. I have a BSN with a near-perfect GPA, a previous degree (for which I also had a near-perfect GPA), hundreds of clinical hours, direct experience with Vanderbilt and hundreds of hours' worth of externship experience and didn't get in. I even know a few people who currently work at Vandy as techs who didn't get in! Apparently Vanderbilt chose to hire a lot of out-of-state applicants for marketing purposes...ya know, "We have nurses from 42 different states and Puerto Rico!" or whatever.

I'm glad for everyone who did get in, but it's really frustrating for in-state students who have worked their butts off to get jobs at Vanderbilt since the day they started nursing school. Getting legitimately rejected is one thing, but getting rejected when you feel like it's not fair is really hard to swallow, and I know a LOT of in-state graduates from several different schools who are struggling with that right now.

In-state grads...I'm not saying don't try to get in to Vandy...definitely try. But don't do what a lot of grads did and count on getting in because of your experience/high GPA/whatever. Have a backup plan!

Hi there OUNurse- i'm sure you're really relieved to have the NCLEX all finished! Hope you passed I'm from Lima; on 75 between dayton and cincy. i know what you mean about the apt search! i've been there several times, and i have friends living there but it's still frustrating trying to find a place that's close, affordable and appealing! i've been checking craigslist a lot, but i'm not sure how legit some of the ads are... we'll see. i'm excited to start, although i'm nervous about graduating, moving down, studying for the nclex, and starting the program then testing all within about a month! it's gonna be a whirlwind

I am from TN and I have accepted a Nurse Resident position in the Adult Health Track. I start on July 6th, also. Hello everyone starting in July!

Kris, like you I put Women's Health as my first choice, but they aren't offering any positions at this time thanks to the wonderful economy. I hope to transfer after getting experience in Adult Health also.

I can't wait to meet everyone and get started as a nurse! :-D
