Vandy NP applicant needs advice and HELP!!!

Hey everyone!

I'm interested in information on the Vandy program. I'm not a nurse and will be entering with a Bachelors degree. My gpa is weak, so I'm really worried. GRE is 1120, so not great either but I'm retaking it next week. Really interested in acute care.

I really want to get into a program in Middle Tennessee. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Any input would be greatly appreciated....

How did your retake go? Did you get your app fully in?
Let us all know how it goes, good luck.

The advisor told me the average GPA was less than a 3.5 with a GRE of around 1150. So don't give up.

I applied to the direct entry program for 2005. I had gone to several colleges during my college career and one was on a 3 pt system rather than a 4 pt system. I was denied admission because they said that my GPA was not high enough (2. something). I asked them to recalculate it explaining that my school where I obtained my BSW was on a 3 pt system. They recalculated it(3.67) and wrote me a letter accepting me in the program but putting me on the waiting list as they no longer had any openings.

In the mean time, I had applied to two local nursing programs and been accepted into both of them. I decided to become an RN first rather than take my chances on the direct entry program. I had been told emphatically that it was not a good way to go. I started an accelerated RN program in May of 2005 and went 4 months, every summer for 3 years. I also worked on my BSN while I was getting my RN I graduated with my RN in August 2007 and then my BSN in May 2008. I am now studying for my MSN as I continue to work full time.

I think it would have been very hard to learn what one has to learn to be an FNP after just getting the basics the first year without a real chance to practice. I am glad I am doing it this way though at the time I was not happy. Everything happens for a reason.:hngon:

Good luck,
Mahage
