Charlene212,

Right now I am paying about $800 for a 2br/1.5 ba in North Carolina, which is kind of steep right now for me as a student. I have a feeling that I probably won't be able to find a two bedroom in that price range in Nashville. But I could be wrong. I really don't want to pay over $1000/mo if I can avoid it. I feel like that would really limit me and put me at a disadvantage financially. I could definitely deal with a one bedroom apartment for the first year if it's a reasonable size, until I really get on my feet.

I really hope those other offers work out for you so you can move back to Nashville. It sounds like you're doing the right thing by having multiple options and back-up plans. Are you still in school, or have you been out of nursing school for awhile?

Leah, I sent you an email! Thanks for the notice. I'm not sure why you couldn't send messages. I definitely don't have premium services and can still send... so odd!

Nurse901, I'm glad you posted that! I had a feeling that there would be people who would be forced, for one reason or another, to turn the positions down or to reconsider them. My husband and I have really had to sit down and make considerations about the offer I received. He's a nurse too and there's no guarantees, y'know? It's a thoughtful process and not for everyone when the opportunity occurs!

If you are willing to go to Spring Hill or Columbia (south of Nashville - about a 45 min drive to Vandy) then you can find town homes or even a rent house for about $1000...up near Vandy, it is going to be tough unless you get a real small one bedroom. Bellevue would be an option too but it is not as nice (some safe areas though)...

I lived in Franklin near the Cool Springs Mall (nice area that is a little more expensive) and was paying $800 for a large (over 800 sq. ft) one bedroom at Alara Farms.

Thank you...I hope things work out for me out there too even though Vandy didn't. That was my first choice...I am still in school and will graduate this December with an associates degree...I was asking about what degree people had that are getting into the Vandy program because hospitals here are starting to pick those with Bachelors degrees first so my class is having trouble finding jobs. I wonder if a Bachelors degree got you more points with Vandy...I have 2 1/2 yrs of experience in a hospital, worked as a police/fire/EMS dispatcher and have my EMT license so I am a little surprised that I didn't have enough points since I thought the interview went amazing...guess it wasn't meant to be though.

NURSE901,

I was number one on the waiting list and ended up getting an offer yesterday. I'm sure I got your spot. I want to personally thank you for your e-mail and for giving me the opportunity to work at Vandy. I wanted this job soooooo bad and because of you I got it.

Charlene,

I also have an Associates and was also very surprised that I was put on the waiting list. My interview went really well and I am already an RN. I worked in an ICU for four months as an RN before I moved to tennessee. My portfolio is filled with accomplishments. I have all my critical care certs (acls, ekg, etc.) And even though i don't have a BSN i have a Bachelors degree in another field. I felt very rejected when I was placed on the waiting list. I have a job already working on a surgical floor at a different hospital but I want to work at vandy. Its truly the cream of the crop when it comes to hospitals around here. Having vandy on your resume looks very good. Also i want to get back into critical care, its my dream. I am very greatful that it ended up working out for me.

For those of you looking for areas to stay in the Nashville area, hendersonville (sumner county) is a great place to live. i live about 25 minutes from vandy. the neighborhood is equivelent to franklin and brentwood but quite a bit cheaper. I am paying $1100 per month for a 3BR, 1400 sq feet apartment with an outstanding kitchen. it is brand new (just opened in july) and has granite counter tops. Its called Adventura at Indian Lakes Village. There is a pool and fitness center onsite. if you search there are photos and virtual tours on forrent.com and rent.com. there are two and one bedroom apartments available also that are obviously cheaper than the 3 bedrooms. its not really a party area over here though. if you want to live in a lively atmosphere you will have to go near vandy or downtown which is expensive.

I also was accepted to the Vanderbilt Critical Care Residency. I am very excited and looking forward to meeting everyone. I've lived in nashville for 12 years, moved here actually to attend Vanderbilt undergrad in '97 and after a Bachelor's in Psychology have lived here since!! Funny that I'm now heading back to Vanderbilt for the residency, but am thrilled to be in such a great program and with other people motivated to learn and be their best. If I can do anything for anyone - please let me know. As I was filling out liscensure paperwork this week I was thinking how difficult it must be for those of you moving from out of state. I can't wait to meet ya'll!

Sounds like there might be quite a few Critical Care residents. I wonder if that's related to the new tower. I'm also on the Critical Care Track and am looking forward to making new friends...

Slightly overwhelmed by the out of state thing... and what to do with the house and pets! busy, busy!

Angel RN 1,

Thank you for letting me know that. I am shocked that with your experience that you didn't get picked first. I wish we knew how they chose people.

Hello everyone,

I know I've personally been in touch with some of you through email, but I just want to say thanks again for all of the support. Everyone has gone above and beyond to help me with the moving process, offering suggestions and welcoming me with open arms. It truly does mean the world to me that everyone is so helpful and nice. It sounds like all of us are in the critical care track, so I can't wait to officially meet all of you and to make some new great friends.

Angel_RN, I am so pleased to hear that you received an offer. And I am also surprised that you weren't chosen before. Either way, you deserve this position and I am so happy that you will be in the program!

Thanks again to everyone, and I know we will be keeping in touch before we all meet in Nashville. I can't wait to get to Tennessee. It's very bittersweet that all of my dreams are coming true, as cliche as that sounds! Talk to you all soon!
