I am a nurse at Vandy who did not go through the PNR program, but I do precept most of the nurse's who come through our dept. My best advice to all of you is to first and foremost, be yourself. Secondly, be honest about what makes you passionate about nursing. Third, let them know why you will be a great addition to the program (what separates you from everyone else?). Good luck to you all. Vandy really is a great place to work and learn!

To Vandyrn27,

Hi! I have a few question about working at Vanderbilt and since you are the only nurse I know who actually works there I hope it's okay if I ask you some questions. I am a recent graduate from WA and I'm worried about the cost of living in Nashville. As a nurse would I be able to afford living in Nashville? Does Vanderbilt offer any help with student loans?

thanks

I had my interview today. They didn't give me a direct answer as to how many spots were available but there are 200 plus people interviewing in total(including adult and peds). They did say that they don't decide how many people they are going to take in the program until after they complete all the interviews and that the spots are pretty competetive. Also I found out that Vanderbilt is building a critical care tower that is going to expand the critical care units which is allowing for many job opportunities in that area, which answers our question about how they are able to offer so many openings. The interview wasn't bad at all. Just relax and be yourself. It actually goes by pretty quickly. Good luck to you all and hopefully we will all get to meet in January.

Thanks SJones RN for your posting. It provided great information. I'm happy to hear you felt great about your interview. What types of questions did they ask you? Did you have time to ask your own questions, and if so what did you ask them?

Best wishes to you...I hope you get what you want.

i asked about the number of candidates verses the available spots. Thats how i was able to get the info. I also asked about vanderbilt as a whole and that's when I was told about the critical care tower. As far as what i was asked, there were a LOT of questions and they all pertained to my past work experience and clinical experience, the type of work and tasks I performed, etc. I dont know what i am going to do to occupy myself while I am waiting for a response from them. Mid november is a long time to wait since I had my interview so early.

Hey everyone! I haven't posted in awhile, but I just wanted to congratulate everyone on getting chosen for an interview. It seems that everyone has had their interviews already. I'm flying into Nashville tomorrow (first time) and my interview is on Tuesday! I have never been more nervous for anything in my life! I keep trying to stay positive and remember how lucky I am just to have this opportunity. I hope everything went well for all of you, and hopefully we'll all be meeting soon! I'll post soon and let you know how it goes. Thanks to all!
