University of Tennessee Health Science Center

hi, i live california, but i want to apply to the University of Tennesse Health Science Center in memphis for school since the waitlists here are two & three years long. my brother & his family live in memphis & i absolutely LOVE it there.

i already have a BA in another field, so i'd be applying for the second degree BSN program. does anyone know how competitive the second degree program is as far as admissions? does anyone have any experience with this school & what the program is like?

thanks for your help!

me too....I am considering UT. Although, I can not offer any help/answers to your questions I am very much interseted in what others have to say? Do you mind if I ask if you have looked into Baptist College of Health Sciences or the University of Memphis nursing programs? This past week I stopped by their campus and picked up a packet for their second degree program. If you are interested you can take a look at their program here:

here is the link to BCHS:

i started checking out the university of memphis today & it looks like it's a five semester program? i could be completely wrong & i'd heard that you can do the 'accelerated track' & get through it more quickly, but it's hard to find information about that on their website.

& i hadn't really considered BCHS until i looked more into it & just now realized that it would cost just about the same as UT... so maybe i'll apply there as well. that program looks like it's about a year & half long, right?

the thing i liked about UT was that it was only a year & a half, so i wouldn't be away from home (& living with my brother's family) for TOO long.

& thank you so much for the links! that was so thoughtful & helpful of you!

IIRC it is five semesters. Although you can take two classes in the summer, patho and pharm and then start from there. I have heard about the accelerated track too. Is it something like taking 3 clinicals in one semester....that does sound hard.

Yes, I believe so. I do know that if you already have a degree in another area you would still take the same classes as someone with little to no college transfer hours. A lady at BCHS told me that they would have to look at the hours you transfer in first to see if you would need to take any additional hours in any area/field.

this is what I liked about the program as well. When I took A&P there was a young lady that had applied the first year they started the program. I gave her my phone number and asked if she could contact me when she started. I never heard from here although I wish I would have b/c I am very much interested in UT's program.

No problem...anytime.

Hi, I'm going to Baptist right now and I hate the program so far. I already have a BS in Bio, but since its a private college, they require you to take all these bogus unnecessary prerequs and the nursing program in 5 semesters, no accelerated options!! I'm applying to UT pronto and hope to get in there.... Wish me luck

hi Glory27,

I am so sorry to hear this. Each week I have put off starting on my application for BCHS for some reason or another. I am going to apply to UT's program instead.

I am sending good vibes your way for UT.

Good luck

I go to University of Memphis now and if you start in the fall, you can finish in one year and it's a realy good program.

Well this is my opinion. I live right down the street from UT and BCHS. UT's student parking is next to my townhome, lol. I think Baptist has a great BSN program from the students I have talked to that goes to the school. Also my mom works with alot of RN students who go to Baptist and UofM. Since you want to go into a Accelerate BSN program I would say UT. I think UT is harder to get into. But if you have the requirements I would say go UT all the way! But I do think that BSCH has a easier acceptance than UT by far. Especially for people who are going into the BSN program. UT has more requirements for getting into the school if you dont already have a degree. Since I dont have a degree I plan on transfering to BSCH next spring. And if god grants the will I will be at UT for a masters program. Wish you both luck and hope this helped.

Is that an accelerated program for people that already have a degree in something else? That would be great. But do they not want you to work? Because I have to have a job.
Thanks
